Just bought a 2003 Altima and I took it down to get it smogged but the engine light doesnt come on at all. Any ideas? I think the previous owner had somebody working on it to intentionally disable the light so he can sell it. He also said the window doesnt work and the switch was probly the culprit but when I took it down to Nissan they said the motor was missing along with the wiring! This guy lied to me big time! Also the radio has no lights.

I would take it to your local Autozone or Advance Auto and have them scan for codes. They can write down the vehicle specific ones and you can see what might have been setting off the light by looking them up online later. Most likely they took out the cluster and removed the bulb. That is the easiest way to keep the CEL from coming on... It is super dishonest, but let's face it, the track record thus far is less than honorable. Depending on what is wrong with the car, you may have legal recourse. I would have to guess that it is illegal to remove the check engine bulb to sell a car. I am not sure the local laws, but if the emissions system was removed or modified I know that is against the law in most places. It would have to be a pretty serious issue to consider courts. They are expensive. As far as the radio lights... is it the stock radio or an after market unit? It could be an impropererlly installed after market head unit causing the lights not to function. It sucks you are having such a bad experience with your new Nissan. I hope this helps in some way.
