so i did a detail cleaning in my engine bay today. degreased the engine and put some shiny stuff all over the engine bay. looks great. let it dry for a bit and took it out. after driving for a few minuites the car stopped shifting until it hit high rpms. check engine light is on too. im gonna let it sit over night and hopefully dry out. oh yeah. it has always shifted late or not at all when using the 1 2 drive method for shifting. but never did it when i just ran it like an auto. any ideas?

My 92 240sx is doing the same thing. We changed the Speed / revolution sensor then replaced the transmission and it is still doing the same thing. I was told that it could be the computer specifically for the transmission. we are still trying to find out morew info. What year is your beast?

ummm, if ur using 1 2 D then its going to shift late or not at all....thats what its for. As for regular auto, when you washed your engine you didn't use any high pressure water did you? Bad news when spraying your engine full of electronics, ive always used just flowing hose.

Mine was doing the same thing after an engine degrease, but I started shifting it manually, and then we drove it about 50 miles, and whatever got wet dried out. It really freaked me out at first though.

i just used a garden hose. last time i washed it i forgot to plug my spark plugs and got water all in them and that scared me to death but i eventually figured it out and sucked them out. now this one. ill try driving it for a while longer but its still doing it and i washed it yesterday.

Because I have just purchased my car, I actually didn't know what to expect. So, I knew all I had done was wash it, so I drove it a couple days, then yesterday just drove down to Indy. The long drive in OD at highway speeds made the hard shift go away. It was 40 miles down there and the same back.

let it sit, then drive it some more, if its still doing it in like a day or 2, then i'd be worry man. When i washed mine, i let it dry and went to start it and all i heard was a pop! noise. Scared me, but it was just some water leftover. Let it sit, rechecked the connections and its ran fine :p.

Why don't you download the FSM & run through the troubleshooting section?

From a while back - extracted from FSM:
1hotsilvia wrote:I originally found this in the nissan tech forum. . Here's a copy from my records. I can't remember where I found it for sure so here you go. I believe this was originally posted by nistech, correct me if I'm wrong. I hope this isn't against any forum rules, someone please let me know if it is.

" "1)start vehicle and warm it to operating temp.2) turn the key off and press the OD button to on position make sure shifter is in park.3)Turn the key on engine not running make sure the od light comes on for 2 seconds. If it does go to #4 if not post back.4) turn the key off and shift the trans to D. use the lock release if neccesary. Set the OD switch to off.5) turn the key on and wait at least 2 seconds. then set OD switch to on.6) Shift to 17) set overdrive switch to off.8) press accelerator to floor then release it completly9) set overdrive switch to on.

This will start the OD light to flash your codes. The light will have one long illumination flash then start flashing short blips. Watch the flashes carfully cause one or more of them will stay on slightly longer then the others. There are 10 flashes total. If say it goes like this, first the start signal long flash thenblip..blip..blink.blip..blip..blip..blip..blip..blip..blip. notice how the thrid was a little longer. The would be a 3 which corrospondes to TPS short or open.

When you do it there are 10 posibilities plus a no failure which would be all blips of the light."."
The actual blip codes can be found in the FSM.

so the problem is gone. i read in my chilton for a while and after what i had read and drove it for a while i decided it was the tps. so i unpluged it and water poored out of the socket. let it dry and it was fixed. thanks for the post on what to do though. i may still have to run that cause my od light flashes every time i turn the car on. and my check engine is on.

Not yet, we just bought it from our friend for on $350.00The body is mint and the the inside needs just a bit of TLC the transmission was the major issue.......or so we thought. LOLI will be putting a pic up of it when we are done with the transmission issue and we remove the racing stripe.

lol. racing stripe. so u got the car for 350? not bad. i paid 5 grand for mine. i had to replace almost all of the plastic for the interior. thats was it though. almost flowless leather and body had no rust. it has got a little surface rust since ive had it. suspension and paint are my next to doo's. ill post a pic as soon as i can find my wire to connect my phone to my pc.

I love my little car the interior is very clean, there is a bit of a crack started on the dash but I will replace it latter. The body is beautiful the paint is a bit faded on the rear bumper, and the only other thing I have to really fix it the small bit of rust on the sub frame. I have to buy some square piping and have it welded on the sub frame, hopefully that will be in the next two weeks and I can register it afterwards. The last thing I have to get is a catalitic converter. But for $350 I did good , I'll try to take a pic tomorrow.Jess
