Hello all, Im a noob to this site and I had a couple questions regarding my 2001 Pathfinder 3.5L 5spd. I'm from Ontario Canada
Heres where I flunked my e-test on asm2525 test only everything is within limits
CO% Limit 0.29 Reading 0.52
NO ppm limit 578 Reading 829
I have had some engine light codes come on first time it said p1320 random missfire and code for bad coil #5 and p1145 crank sensor. So I changed coil #5 and cleaned both crank sensors. Drove for about an hour turning off and on a couple of times no cel until I went to the shop for e test ran it anyway and failed on the readings above.. checked codes got only 1320 as a code cleared several times and it keeps coming back... fine I might need another coil. Today drove it about 120 kms each way straight highway to my brothers house got home scanned again came up with 5 codes
P1320, P1145, P1320, P1145, and PO160 O2 no activity Bank 2 sensor 2.

If anybody has any opinions as to what is going on here you're help would be greatly appriciated I just bought this truck and I am on a 10 day permit so I need to pass e-test before I can get sticker for my plate just looking to pass e-test without wasting my money on crap I don't need.

Cheers
Steve :)

What is the manufacturing date of your Pathfinder? 2001 model years had some coil pack issues which were rectified on the 2001.5 revision with new coil packs. Your coil pack #5 might be faulty. Verify its connection.

For your P1145 code, swap the driver's side sensor and see if the problem moves. If it does, you have a bad sensor and need a new one. I've had two of these sensors in for a year now, and no issues.

Not sure what to do about the O2 sensor code. Maybe a new one is in order, let someone more knowledgeable chime in first.

How many miles on the PF now?

Who did you buy it from? In California passing emissions is sellers responsibility unless contractually stated otherwise.

"Ignition coil, transistor, intake valve timing, rear O 2 Sensor"

You got to love OBDII.
1st---if the power transistor failed your done so that should be OK
2nd Ignition coil a late, early non existent spark--the coil paks in 2001 from this site seem to be problematic. Grease, dirt, cracks within, bad connections, moist air will lead to this fault plus a grounding problem on the HT side. Check it out carefully with a good meter and be fussy about corroded wires and connections, at some point replace if in doubt.
3rd the O2 sensor, if the truck has over 60,000 miles replace. Heated circuit must be verified. Older O2 sensors become retarded, sometimes a clean up works but the time to remove and play around with it, your time is better spent in replacing.

Thanks for the help guys, my pathfinder was made in feb 2000 240,000 kms. I replaced the #5 coil and it ran great did the emissions after the coil replacement and thats when it failed. The cam sensor P1145 is the passanger side correct because its totally different looking than the drivers side mabey the manufacturing date has something to do with that? I cleaned both because they were both pretty scummy tripped the code again after that so I'll probablly replace.
As for the O2 I am wondering if something elese is wrong and is throwing that O2 off.

As for California having the seller emission test the vehicle thats different from Canada its on whomever to emissions test, its test is valid for one year. I bought the truck as is so I deal with emissions. Once I pass emissions test and put my sticker on my plate my emissions test will have to be renewed every other year in order to get my sticker on my plate expires on my birthday. Its been in action for about 10 years in Ontario and as much as dont like paying to do the test every other year it has removed alot of crap off the roads in the last decade.

You have a 2001 model year. Dates 01/01/2000-08/31/2000 are 2001s and 09/01/2000-06/30/2001 are 2001.5s.

You're saying that you replaced coil pack #5 already, and the misfire is gone?

The cam sensors should be identical, you are probably not looking at the correct sensor. See here for an excellent how-to.

Thanks Towncivilian turns out I only cleaned the passanger side and some other sensor on the front. I changed the coil within 24 hours of putting the truck on the road but it made a noticable difference in power cleared the codes and road tested turned it off turned it back on and got 1320 code, left it and did a road trip to my brothers house and got all the other codes. I'm going to clean the other sensor and clear codes I'll post results of that later I dont want to try emissions test again until I fix cel codes I'm shure this is one thing screwing up another thing.
I'm a big fan of Nissan vehicles and I see alot of good driving left in this truck. I bought this one pretty cheap knowing that it wasent perfect so I don't mind fixing a few things.
Cheers

Welcome to NICO first of all. It's always good to have another Canadian aboard (I'm in Ottawa BTW).
Mine is a 2002, so I don't have the coil issues you may have, but I have had O2 sensors replaced.
I would suggest you bite the bullet and replace them, at least the down pipe ones (there are 4 in total).
If they have never been replaced, then you should also go to the dealer and have the ECU flashed (reprogrammed) after replacing them. There is a software update for the O2 sensor heater circuit, and they should do this for free.
After you get through the e-test process, I think you'll be happy with your purchase.
(Hopefully the previous owner did his regular maintenance.)
I have close to 240,000 Kms. on mine as well, and it still runs great.
Good luck.

Thanks Buzzman I'm form the Guelph Kitchener area. The previous owner had it since about 07 and there are lots of pricey recipts for work that has been ie crank sensor, 2 coils a mass air sensor frequent oil changes all the fluids changed new tires new shocks a bunch of front brake work.

I'm putting a new camshaft sensor in it tomorrow and I'll see what that does cleared codes last night and this morning light came back on (p1320) I'm shure the P1145 will return shortly. The O2 code hasn't returned nor was it there when I bought it good to know Nissan will flash the computer for free I'll keep posting with results good for anyone to know who has emissions issues eh!

You're from Canada too I went to Nissan dealer on Friday the gut at the service counter looked at me like I have two heads when I asked him about a re flash said theres no reason why I would need to do that. He told me that must be a U.S.A. thing only. I think I'm going to talk to another dealership they were'nt too nice to deal with in my town! There were 5 pathys and qx45 sittn there dead in the water this strut tower recall has me a bit worried mine has a metal patch screwed in there to hold the tower together. I glanced at a qx45 on my way out with literally nothing left of the inner fender/tower.
