wont go in reverse? help

so i got my car stuck in snow and i had to reverse out and now it wont shift into reverse has anyone had any similar problems and what is stopping my tranmission from going into reverse?

Ive had similar problems...but I live in SoCal so it wasnt in snow. Once in a while it wont shift into Reverse...so I just fully release the clutch, then try it again. Usually goes in the first time, sometimes it takes a few tries ^^'

oh yeah i know exactly what your talking about it happens farely often for me so i pump the clutch and then it goes right in but today all my gears were sticking like ten minutes after it happened and i drove it around and it got alittle better but reverse hasn't budged i had my friend try and back out while i pushed and he decided to try and rock it back and forth and was grinding my gears and after that he got out cause it wasn't working for him so then i got in and it just refused to go in ,so Im not really sure,i don't know to much about transmissions to know if that the problem im just wondering if any one knows something to check that could possibly be the problem if it could be various things

When it does it, cycle the clutch and shift into first, then try reverse one more time. Works for me in any car that has difficulty going into reverse.

i tried that but it didnt quite work i have a feeling that its the shift lock thats stuck or whatever but is there any way i can take the shift lock out or check the sensors to see if anythings disconnected? i just dont know where the sensors are exactly any ideas?

ok well i just went and jacked my car up and checked all the senors that are attached to my transmission and they are all connected and have no damage done to them. so thats ruled out i suppose. but when i go to shift into reverse it budges a few centimeters but thats it and after it reaches how far it will go i hear alittle click any ideas anyone?

also i was driving today and i was slowing down in the median and i decided to see if it would do anything if i put it in reverse to where it can go so i pushed in the clutch and tried putting it in reverse and it grinded and kinda jerked the car if that helps any, just trying to give you as much possible information to help diagnose the problem

well for me the only time that it grinds when goin into reverse is if im still rolling. if ur driving make sure that u STOP COMPLETELY before u shift it into reverse. as far as the shift lock...i have no idea about that. because i dont think i have shift lock and i thought it was only in automatic trannys.

yeah i was driving two days ago and i was slwoing down for a red light and i slowly budged it in reverse and it worked and i was pretty shocked but i grinded it until it went in the i pushed it out then put it back in and reversed alittle at the red light then it got stuck in reverse and i backed into this guys driveway to figure out if there was anything to do then he came out and i told him the situation and he was like oh well your gonna have to go be stuck in reverse somewhere else <---a$$ but then me and my friend had to push the car into another parking lot and i ended up having my car towed because i only had one gear at the time and that was reverse

haha yeah it kinda seems like a waste all the fixing and what not ive done on my car i could have had enough money for a new engine im tempted to take her off the road and just build it but im moving rather soon so idk if a car with no working trannys gonna be a problem to get around
