Question for you all. See if you guys can help.

Situation: Started a few weeks back but when I turned on my headlights my radio turned off then turned back on. At first I did not think anything of it but just within a few days when driving at night when i turn on my lights from and idle position, the RPMs drop dramaticly(sp) then another time after pullin into a gas station the car died after i turned the lights back on... The RPMs hit like Zero (0) and died... Started it right back up and off i go. The next morning I restarted the car to put gas and it started up fine. I Pulled over to the parking for a second to add fuel additive and when i went to restart the car all the GAUGES LIGHTS and stuff turned off blacken out and the car did not even bother making a click. SO i thought it was the battery and that the Alternator did not recharged the battery. SO I took the battery in to get it charged so i can take my car in at least one more time... Found out the battery is still fully charged and then we conducted a LOAD TEST it past and did not drop below 10. Any Idea what this could be.

Possiblities: I think its the alternator or starter but only thing is how can i tell from this point? Or is it another thing?

Acknowlegdements: Thanks in Advance for any Advice.

Pending: My Courtdate way up north :)

Pretty sure it was your alt. to begin with, but check your starter too if your engine doesn't even turn.

you can take your alternator off and take it to like autozone or discount auto parts and they can test it for you, i think i should be puttin about 80 volts out. if you plan on putting a big sound system in or stuff like that, you can upgrade, i got a 120volt one for my 3000watt system, works great

Actually, all alternators put out 12 volts, it's the amperage that varies, as you probably have a 120 amp alternator. Most places would probably suggest that, but just in case . . . :-)

Found out the Problem... It was the Positive Power Cable thing that hook up to the battery post and spreads everywhere else... that thing got fried/shocked and was a lost. had to get it replaced cost 220 from nissan since there was no other aftermarket replacement parts. Thanks... and my alternator just pumps out 80 amps the 90 amps are for the ones with Foglamps and I might want to upgrade to that or even higher since I do have a stereo system install. Thanks

WHOA i had the SAME problem. I just stripped all the wire and bought a battery clamp from pep boys for $3.25 . Works like a charm : ) For a while i had a 12gauge wire holding the two broken metal pieces together...BIG MISTAKE Anyway happy driving guys. BTW...240nismo, where did u get that 120amp alternator and how much was it? Did you feel any difference in engine response? I'd imagine it puts up more resistance making all those extra amps. Thanks
