Was able to run the derelict 88 today. Ran much better than expected. All I did was go over the engine compartment unplugging and re-plugging all of the connections, including spark-plug wires. What I didn't expect was that after idling just fine, revving smoothly, for about 15 minutes, she would not restart. It cranked like there was no spark.

I searched, but Won't Start does not come up in subjects, must be great cars! :-)

I am hoping that there is a quirk to this car that 5 people race to say "Try doing this"! If not, I'll report as I troubleshoot if there is any interest.

It's most likely a spark issue as when some components go or are about to go, they tend to dislike heat. However, usually you'll experience the issues under load if it's hot enough. Check your coil resistance's and plugs first. If I remember right, the primary to primary resistance should be around 2k ohms and your primary to secondary should be 10-12k ohms.

Hot start problems usually are the CHTS, fuel temp sensor or O2, all should present a code, have you checked for codes?

Is the fuel temp sensor is on the front of the engine, on the level with the plenum, on the side of the vacuum actuated, well looks like a pressure regulator, yellow wire? It was missing it's plug so I temporarily soldered it to the spade on the sensor.

During testing today I was letting it idle to operating temp and it started running rough, died and refused to restart. I am going to try a can of Heet water extractor since she sat for almost 2 years before I got her running and home. While running rough, I was able to get in the car and keep it running until I tried to let it idle, then she died.

I'll report the results of the fuel additive and try to pull the codes. I am a disabled Veteran and have a tough time doing stuff under the dash. Fixing the brake lights and cruise control laid me up for 2 days. I have the climate control fan to fix too, so when I can get to where I can work in the foot well, I'll pull the codes first.

Added a can of Heet with fuel Injector cleaner, started her, ran it up to operating temp. During the long idle, it stumbled off and on for a while, then settled down to a smooth idle. After shutting down, it started right up. She still starts better cold, so I am planning on doing the plugs, wires, dizzy cap and rotor, and possibly, if I can get to a salvage yard, a more modern ignition transistor (I forgot the technical name). After that I expect it to run well.

I am trying to find out the date of the last timing belt change. I really don't want to have to do that if I don't need to. I may pull the top cover and eyeball the belt, haven't decided yet...

Glad the Heet helped you out. I'd suggest doing at least a visual inspection on the timing belt. If it has any cracks, frays, or feels loose, I'd replace the belt along with the tensioner.

Start super simple always: assume vapor lock, loosen gas cap. If no difference, then proceed...
