I got it*****

Code: Select all

Hello, I was poking around the cables for the Ignition Control Module while the car was running and after touching them the car shot off; I cranked it and it started again; I did the same thing couple of times and the same thing happened each time so I figure that the connector needed maintenance and I proceeded to disconnect the harness to clean it from rust and dirt.

when I went to start the car I discover that I had forgotten two fundamentals. to disconnect the negative battery terminal and to take the key off the ignition.

Now My car Wont start. It cranks and all but wont start. I tested the Ignition Control Module itself in another Z32 and it works, so that is not it.
I think I can hear the gas pump working so that might not be it. I also checked the 2 places I know for fuses and all are OK.
I don't know what to do.
what can it be?

is it a fuse? how many more places for fuses are there? (inside the cabin by removing the slighting door fuse box and under the hood driver side next to a bunch of relays.)

is it something else?

Thanks a lot guys, any help will be gold

the Ignition Control Module is mounted on the front passenger side of the engine. and it has 2 connections. and it looks something like this

*** Never mind I got it; I tried it out the next day and started up... The piston was probably floated with gasoline; or the alarm was kicking in. don't know but it works now

Welcome, that's the Power Transistor Unit, AKA PTU, not the ignition control unit.

There are more fuseable links near the battery.

Try disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnecting and trying to start. While disconnected, blow the PTU connectors out with compressed air.

Thank you BigTDogg.

now is working and I am so happy...

by any chance would you know if there is a thread that explains how to fix The RPM from dropping; this is very common on 300zx. specially when the lights are ON ?

Thanks again man

If the idle drops with the headlights being on, you have an alternator issue.

As for adjusting the belts, check out the FSM here
