It is a 1989 240sx. Will start and idle no problem..Give it gas and it bogs down like it is gonna stall out.. If you just lay your foot on the gas pedal, it'll go have to shift super short.. under 3k for all gears will only do like 35.. I only know bc I had to drive it home like that. Tried a ton of stuff.. new cap and rotor, my brother tries to work on it for me he has 2 240's but he is stumped. Can a girl get some help please??

what happens if you slowly apply the gas pedal. does it work ok then? im thinking maf and swirl control. those are two things that come into play around 3k.

Did your brother check for trouble codes? it may confirm that the Mass Airflow Meter may be bad/ electrical connection not tight...

Missy, that's what "limp mode" does... limit revs to 2500-3k only... to prevent damage/ raise the driver's awareness that something's wrong

scan for trouble codes should be one of the initial things to do in this case.... of course, as well as doing a visual on what chris said.

did your bro verify the trouble codes???

Sounds like you need a new distributor. Had similar issue with my Q45 and it turned out to be the TPS..aka Throttle Position Sensor

the tps is not ever refered to as distributor.

The TPS is NOT the distributor, nor referred to as the distributor!

The ecu should be throwing some codes, if you could post them it would be very helpful. As previously stated, this is generally a maf problem on these cars.
