My 95 240 just started bogging down at 5500rpm tonight...not so much boggin as like hitting the rev limiter but it bounces from 5000 to 5500...does it in every gear and in neutral. Any thoughts on what it could be?

You answered your own question. The rev limiter isn't a flat spot where it just sits perfectly - it'll bounce around a little. It's like running into a wall, taking a step back, and then trying again.

Just to rub it in, my KA revs to 7000 with no limiter in sight (actual limiter is 7200 - Love the Altima). Then again, all the power is around 4000rpm, so there is no need to go that high.

ok there is no such this as a rev limiter that would cut your car off at 4500 when you can still rev the engine safely for another 2000rpm. i had a similar problem with my car where it would do the same thing but at 2500 rpm. it turned out to that my mass airflow plug was loose.

Limiter at ~2500 iS MAF related...

Limiter at ~5500 is typically a bad 5th gear switch...ECU thinks you're in 5th gear all the time, and the backup speed limiter comes on (You have 2...one at ~116mph, whch you can bypass by cutting a wire at the ECU, and a backup limiter that is 5500 in 5th gear only)

So disconnect your 5th gear switch (just uinplug it at the trans), see if that solves the problem.

Wait wait wait....so HOW can you take the rev limiter of 5th gear off? because it really annoys me to have to top out in 4th gear. As a matter of fact, how do i take my top speed limiter off or whatever so it dont cut out at 140 mph, or 130, or wherever a 92 nissan 240 cuts out at?
