We just put a KA24E out of my friend's car into my new car (the old motor was done)...I saw and heard it run in his car, it was fine. We changed the timing chain guides, tensioner, and some of the gaskets.

In the process, the oil pump also fell out. It was put back in incorrectly, but then we pulled it back out, lined the shaft up with the pump, and put it in. The timing is dead on, the car cranks and runs, but it chatters horribly, and when I leave the oil cap off, you can see that there is no oil getting to the head what-so-ever. We put a pump from another motor in and it did nothing. It also puffs out a massive amount of smoke (probably burning up the internals )

I just don't have a clue why it went from running fine in my friend's car to running horrible in mine!?

Any help would be great, thanks!

The oil light is not on when its running I assume. This makes me question the HG install. Is the oil feed to the head possibly restricted or completely blocked? Where is the smoke coming from?

We didn't replace the HG...the smoke is coming from the exhaust. I'm not sure if the light is coming on...the motor ran fine in my friend's car, all we replaced was: timing chain guides, tensioner, exhaust mani. gaskets, oil pan gasket, water pump gasket, thermostat...and I think that's it. I'm stumped.

When you put the front cover back on, Did you make sure the oring between the block and the cover was installed properly? That is the main oil galley port from the pump. If that is leaking you are gonna have some real low oil pressure.

it is behind the cover near the lower passenger corner of the cover about 2 inches up from the oil pan near the edge of the cover. It mates between the cover and the block.
