OK so i have a ka-t setup and it's got an emance ecu tune. With my first tune i got from emance i would idle great but i was not able to rev past 5 grand. So jason at emance sent me a retune and now it revs like it should and while boosting and driving it is smooth! But it won't hold idle...... Then when i plug in a stock unmodified ecu it holds idle... so i know it doesn't have a vacuum leak or anything little like that.

Here's the video....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gjkyVetr0Y

I tried turning up fuel pressure and down and nothing much changed. Anyone got any ideas what i could do? Or if i should ask for another retune or something this has been starting to become very annoying. i just wanna drive the car around without worry! thanks to all who reply

Well since it idled fine with his other tune and not this one, then i would imagine that it is still in his tune. One thing that im a little confused about...you have a z32 mafs right? how are you able to plug in your stock ECU and have it run right with that? Also you might as well check for codes from the ecu. And re-check your maf wiring just to be on the safe side.

I just read some of your other posts...I think you need to take the SAFC out.

My mafs wiring is right i double checked it with jwt website, and everything is fine and the car runs great when driving it just won't hold idle... The safc is set on default settings and i've even went as far as unplugging it and still nothing... I talked to jason at emance and he's sending me another retune.

idk i haven't actually DRIVEN the car with the stock ecu plugged in but it does hold idle and rev freely.... but i'm sure it'll take a crap if i tried driving like that haha. no codes from the ecu either and no check engine light...

i guess i'll see how it goes when he sends out the retune on monday.

FWIW, jwt's how-to is different from the z32 fsm. Dont know how much it matters but is clearly shows the two grounds are not to be spliced together, one goes to the ecu ground (the one bundled with the signal wire), the other strait to chasse.

I did do them separate. one to the ground on the harness and one straight to chassis on its own.

When you say you unplugged it, did you do it in a way that allowed the origional MAF signal wire (white one at the ECU) to be spliced back together (ie, you could probably follow the two wires that you spliced onto the cut maf signal wire, up to the safc plug connector and short them with a paper clip . (All other wires are just for monitoring)

If it's still in the equation, default setting does not mean that your signal is not being modified.

yeah i did put them back together. when i cut the wire and wired it into the safc i used male/female connectors to do so. I haven't driven the car or even started it since about last friday, because i don't want to damage anything and i still haven't gotten my retune, and he hasn't responded to my emails.... must be busy or something since he was real good about getting back to me before.

the problem is ecu a very common sideaffect wen buyin an ebay tune jus run the original ecu till u can get a jwt tune. if u must boost try easing down on the throttle as the rpms increase its a little tricky but if u do it just right it will boost smoothely and affectivly throughout the rpm range i do it all the time

I don't know about all that. i don't think it'll even drive with a stock ecu and 550ccs, and a z32 mafs. I don't want to try it anyways just because i don't want to damage anything in the car.

Worst advice ever.....EMance isn't an eBay tune and running stock ECU with boost is just plain retarded since he doesn't have any other fuel/timing regulators.

Just wait for the eMance tune to come in. Im going with them, this is the first bad thing I have read. Good service tho since he is doing his best to fix the problem.

If you run larger injectors you cant run the stock ECU without some type of tuning. Anyone that says you can IS WRONG.

WARNING, DO NOT DO THIS.

Yeah he's been great with helping me out and everything, but man am i getting impatient. haha He hasn't replied to my last 2 emails but i noticed he posts on ka-t.org still so i'm not sure if he's just been to busy to ship it out or what.... But he has been real helpful so far.

And yeah there is now way i'm going to be driving stock ecu boosted with bigger injectors and mafs.

If you want to drive the car and have the safc wired up then just use it until your tune arrives. Atleast you will be able to drive it. This is only if you have a wideband though.

yeah i know i could but i just don't know much about tuning safc's plus i dont' yet have a wideband so that'd be dumb move on my part. Well emance finally responded and he said it's shipped out so now i wait hoping third time's a charm.

its not an ebay tune? go tu ebay and search ecu ka24de and u'll find dozens of ads for emance even when u go to his web site it dirrects u to his ebay link. every one says u cant i say i done it. ka24det 7psi t4 garret turbo 440cc injectors stage 3 cams adjustable cam gears dual valve springs stock maf, driven daily. results stand. the only reason i havent installed the tuned ecu is because the tune kit that i got from jwt is made to handle 700hp and im savin cash to get the 2.6l stroker kit from brian crower. anyways i didnt say he should drive his car forever with the stock ecu because even though IT WILL RUN it wont produce its full potencial. iwas just saying if he wants a good tune go with jwt and just run the car on the stock ecu with a different driving teqnique untill he can get 1 from jwt. and thats only if he uses the car as a dd and only if hes fed up with the crapy tunes he has gotton so far.

Yes, he does post up his stuff on ebay, but it is quality tune. Something about posting up stuff on ebay makes it sound bad, but it doesnt matter. There are many people on nico with emance and trust me they are really good. my tune is by him and it ran waybetter than when i only used afc. I'm getting mine retune after i get my engine back from being built and visiting him to get dyno tune. so gaurantee to make good power. Plus this guy knows what he's doing, he has a ka-t making over 500+ whp. You make it seem like JWT and enthalpy never had problem w/ any of their customers tune. ask around people got bad tunes before even with JWT and Enthalpy.

im just sayin u get wat u pay for, it probly is good but ive never used it, so i cant speak from experiance with it.but the guy says hes been through 2 ecus i have yet to hear anything like that about jwt and since im going for 700+hp and since jwt is the only company ive found to offer such a large variety of hp ranged tunes including 700HORSEPOWER!!! lol... and has had experiance producing those #'s im gona go with them. fyi ive also heard some great stuff about stillin tunes they gota be good cuz they even got a dyno

I have an Emance ecu tune, and it's amazing. Perfect AFR's at idle, cruising, and WOT in boost. I've had no problems. Best $150 i've spent. I'm not going to waste $500+ on other tunes that do the same thing, or in most cases aren't even as good. JWT is going to advertise they're stuff like "GOOD FOR 700WHP!!!!!" because they'll get people like you to buy it, and actually think they're going to make 700hp.. do you even know what size turbo that would take? You must just have assloads of money to be able to afford a 2.6L stroker kits and think it's actually worth it.

well the results speak for themself once its finished ill put it on utube for all to apreciate. i dont have assloads of money wich is obviosly why its not finished yet but u cant buld a racer on a grand its not cheap the oly place i save money is on the labor cuz i do it myself, theres always gona be people to down talk the things u do i dd my car as it is. t4 garret turbo custom made water cooled with a stage 5 turbine wheel stock ecu 440cc inj and stock maf only runing 7psi boost on regular unleaded. people said it couldnt be done people said it shouldnt be done and that i should go sr20, well i leave those people in my rear view all the time and ill tell u ur that same kinda person and i luv to prove u wrong.

remember just cuz u think it cant be done only means u aint done it

I heard JWT's afr are pretty rich compared to enthalpy and emance. It seems to me like JWT is getting left behind. enthalpy and emance is getting more customers. there are more happy customers than unhappy ones, so i wouldnt complain. especially the price for the quality tune. If JWT or enthalpy wants to compete then they should lower their price and up their customer service. If you want all of us to change over to JWT then please donate the money and i will be more than happy to change over. I mean i heard that you're getting a stroker kit, that shiIIT cost a lot. you should just go full standalone, it would be wayyy better than JWT,emance, and enthalpy.

I run an eMance ECU/Tune. I was one of the first on this forum to get one, and test it out to 'guinea pig' it. I did it for the community. That said, I've had nothing but a GREAT running car, and no bad things as of yet with the tune. When I got the board and chips, I soldered them into my ECU myself. I followed directions exactly as he explained. Jumped the jumper, and cushioned the daughterboard.I also had a buddy of mine with a laptop, come over with a Blazt consult cable and data logging software. That combined with my Wideband, gave me the ability to check everything in the ECU and tune to make sure it was 'good'. Needless to say, I was very happy with it. He tunes ALL the way across the board(map). So if you run more boost, you pull more air. You pull more air, you get more fuel; and it pulls more timing. etc etcMy tune was for a GT2860RS, and 14psi of boost. I got boost happy at the 1/4 mile, and unplugged my wastegate. Needless to say, I was spiking 26psi, and tapering off as the turbo ran out of 'oomph'. No knock, and ran like a champ.

My car runs 12's, and I get 28mpg on the highway. You do the math...

I will also be testing some other software he is putting into the tunes, if you choose the option. Full writeup upon completion of 'hands on' experience.

Not bashing you, but that's not really that good of a thing to do. Any slight disconnection in that wire, will fudge up your ECU. I had a connection problem once, and I had like a bazillion MAF codes in my ECU when I hooked up consult. So I would say 'nay' to the spade/bullet/t-taps.

I would solder the connection. And if you have to bypass the connection, just solder a longer wire in there for slack/cutting.

Just some $.02

What's up buddy, I already sent your retune out, sorry your car has been acting up. the problem is the non standard rx7 injectors you are using have a different latency value than msd or bosch type i'll be honest you are the first dual cam to use these injectors.. i thought lowering the latency would make it run better but obviously not since it wont idle but boost is good.

anyhow your tracking number is 9101010521297839141549 for the retune you should have it soon.

if you want to stroke a ka then just buy a honda. you will loose all your low-mid torque car wont be fun unless you're 5500k+/rpm

also i doubt it highly you will run 700hp off of any jwt tune. their tunes are so conservative, once you hit 200kpa (30psi) their total timing is 5degrees on their 96lb tune which wont get you anywhere near 700hp so how much boost do you think it will take to get you to 700hp?, not to mention your 10.5:1 air ratio you'll get on your jwt tune.

I've ran 35psi on a gt35 pretty much maxing my turbo and fueling out and have netted around 600whp.. hopefully i'll have my new downpipe installed so i can put my new borg warner s366anyhow so good luck on your project.

ok well thanks. You've been real helpful so far man and i do appreciate it. If we still end up having problems would sending the injectors out to you be able to help anything at all? Looks like from the tracking number they might be in today.. so we'll see how that goes! \*Just so everyone knows i did NOT make this thread to in any way bash emance or jason. I made it because i thought maybe there was something i was just completely missing or doing wrong. He's been real helpful and now i know why we've been having problems and i understand completely.*

if u wana stroker build a honda? lmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what the heck are u talkin about dude? who thinks of honda when they hear the wrd stroker? have you ever even seen an engine? the larger displacement is whad gives u torque/hp. what rpm u whant it to come in at depends on how u time ur cams if u whant low end tq u advance them if u want high end tq u retard them same with ignition timming. im building this motor for low end tq and high rev capability, my turbo is set up to spool at 4000rpm where the ka starts to loose it hp/tq climb, the turbo will give it that extra kick to keep climbing throughout the rpm rang. any ways i wasnt trying to convert anyone, or trying to kill Ur bussiness after all every one has to start somewhere. i was just telling them to be aware that there is a high posibility that it will give problems. if u gota a good tune for cheap then great. but i think u can only bang ur head up against the wall for a few times before ur k.o. if i was getting probs with tune after tune after tune, i would get sick even if it was only $50, the guy hasent been in bussiness for that long and is till gettng a feel for the feild, so hes leting u pay him little so he can experiment with ur ecu, this is not a bad thing u may end up with a good tune after 1 or a few ecus, i just dont wana go through that hassle some people mite not me though. i was thinkin about going stand alone. aem has a nice setup, but im still contemlating. i mite do both and use the jwt for the street and the stand alone for the strip. i know its expensive but hobbies can be that way sometimes. im pretty sure even with the mods u have now with the little u spent there is still someone who told u that u shouldnt spend all ur money on a worthless hunk of junk, well i like my hunk of junk and its my money and im gona spend it on what makes me happy, its not like im planning on selling it but life is short dont be cheap when it comes to doing things that keep ur mind of the anxieties of this stressfull planet. if it gets recked fix it if it gets stollen f*** it and start over fresh and build it bigger better faster.
