ok so i was driving my 240 the other day... and it was driving fine.. then i parked it for awhile, got back in it to go somewhere... went to put it in first and all it did was make this loud grinding sound.. it did this in every gear... so i let off the clutch and push it back in a few times... then it goes in first and drives fine... but every once in awhile it does this

i have changed out the clutch master cylinder.. and bled the system.. but its still doing the same thing...

so im gonna change out the slave cylinder and see if that is the probelm..

if anyone has any ideas.. pls let me know

also i have a high idle (around 1500)... and when i tap the gas it goes to 2 grand and sits there for a few seconds....i have a automatic ECU... could that be the reason? any ideas?

oh and it is a 91 240sx

thanks dan

see if your ecu is throwing a code.

you can also try to slow the idle down a little with the idle control screw if it is always like that.

make sure you bleed the damper box when you bleed the clutch system.

Is your idle always 1500? The idle is supposed to be high when car first starts or when a/c is on. maybe throttle linkage is screwed?

re high idle: check fo vacuum leaks. disconnect O2 sensor to see if that improves things. check your iaa-iacv valve. ficd or air regulator may be stuck open.

Are you getting the grinding during shifting of gears; if so, here are some possibilities:1 - the clutch pedal free play may be incorrect.2 - hydraulic fluid may be very low and/or air may be in the system.3 - the transmission may be low on oil.4 - the transmission synchros may be worn.

The high idle may be due to a TPS problem. Check the TPS harness connector pins for any oxidation.

look up throttle position sensor in faq

article by rogoman. When the idle gets as high as 1500, is that likely a tps problem vs a iacv problem?
