A little history..... the car has run perfectly fine for over a year....until a couple of weeks ago when I installed a catch can. I had moved the original drop resistor over slightly to make room for the catch can bracket....and in the process one of the wires pulled out of the drop resistor. At that point the car would crank up, but idled like poo.......so I soldered the wire back to the resistor. When I went to re-mount the resistor back to the strut tower, I noticed a little spark from the body of the resistor when it touched the strut tower. After I mounted the resistor, I tried to crank up the engine....and it would only turn over, not crank. At that point I figured I just fried the resistor with my lovely soldering job......so I ordered a new one from Nissan for a ca16de, which I was told it would work. I installed the new one today, and still............won't crank. I checked to see if I had spark using a timing light, which it does. The fuel pump kicks on as normal. Now I'm wondering if the ca16de resistor isn't compatable??? Another idea.... does the resistor body require to be grounded? Since I mounted it in a different location, it doesn't quite lay flush, like it did in the old location.....and it didn't spark like the old one did.....which I don't know if that was a good thing or not. Lastly, could my ecu be fried? I wouldn't think so, since I'm getting spark. Any help would be greatly appreciated

you probably fried the ECU, would be my guess. Could be just the injector driver(s) toasted, hence spark.

the amount of current it'd take to short the resistor would be greater than what the ECU can provide, so even if it was shorting it would fry the ECU first.

You don't need an ECU to crack.
