I think we need Heliochrome to chime in here.
Is the "women driving cars" thing really part of Sharia (Islamic Law) or does it stem from something else?
WARNING: Unfiltered and probably unpopular opinion follows:
These, my friends, are the dangers of a theocracy. This is why legislating morality is a bad idea, because morality is ultimately ALWAYS subjective, no matter how universal certain values might seem. Murder isn't illegal because it's morally wrong, it's illegal because it is a behavior that infringes on the rights of other citizens (i.e. "right to LIFE, liberty, etc). Anything and everything that doesn't infringe on the rights of others needs to be legal (so flag burning, gay marriage, etc), regardless of how heretical it may seem when compared against the values of a given religion.
Not because these given behaviors are "right", but because to ban them simply due to majority disdain is wrong.
Because to do otherwise is a legal slippery slope that, if left unchecked, leads inevitably to a theocracy, which will lead inevitably to dictatorship. History has shown it to be IMPOSSIBLE to separate the two.
