I have both the standard NES and the top loader, the top loader doesnt have AV inputs like the older version. I was surprised the "updated" console didn't come with more than just a standard RF cable
You gotta think like it was 1993 or so. Nowadays the top loader is worth a lot more because its rare and MUCH more reliable than the old NES. It rarely ever has blinking lights because of the much better cart slot design.
Now think about it back in 1993. The SNES and Genesis are duking it out. The NES is still a cash cow for Nintendo but its old and expensive to produce and problematic. So Nintendo resigns the NES to be as cheap as possible and more reliable. Hence the top loader. Why bother with A/V jacks when no one uses them anyway and people that are going to be buying the NES are poorer people who can't afford the newer systems anyway.
Its like the PS2 and how its still being sold today but the updated model doesn't have the hard drive slot. Costs Sony less money to produce the slimline rather than the old fat model.
So even though the top loader is more valuable today, back then it was nothing more than a cheap POS marketed towards poorer people who could not afford a SNES or Genesis.
