I stumbled upon a Nomad for sale in a used game shop a couple years ago. Since I'd always wanted one as a kid (had a GameGear instead) I asked them what they wanted for it. $60 with battery pack. Sold. Maybe a bit too much, but playing my favorite Genesis games on the go is worth it. It's just too bad the cartridge slot is obstructed so the 32x doesn't work with it.

I have both the standard NES and the top loader, the top loader doesnt have AV inputs like the older version. I was surprised the "updated" console didn't come with more than just a standard RF cable
You gotta think like it was 1993 or so. Nowadays the top loader is worth a lot more because its rare and MUCH more reliable than the old NES. It rarely ever has blinking lights because of the much better cart slot design.

Now think about it back in 1993. The SNES and Genesis are duking it out. The NES is still a cash cow for Nintendo but its old and expensive to produce and problematic. So Nintendo resigns the NES to be as cheap as possible and more reliable. Hence the top loader. Why bother with A/V jacks when no one uses them anyway and people that are going to be buying the NES are poorer people who can't afford the newer systems anyway.

Its like the PS2 and how its still being sold today but the updated model doesn't have the hard drive slot. Costs Sony less money to produce the slimline rather than the old fat model.

So even though the top loader is more valuable today, back then it was nothing more than a cheap POS marketed towards poorer people who could not afford a SNES or Genesis.

It's actually pretty common for things like a particular output port to disappear on a console partway through its life. Nintendo even did that again with the Gamecube...early models had digital video out and supported progressive scan. It was quickly ditched. The early genesis had built-in headphone output with hardware volume control, that was abandoned with the more compact redesign.

Anyway, unless you're collecting, there's no reason to pay a premium for either original NES. Snag one of these instead:http://kotaku.com/343432/hands...ybrid

That is a crazy sum.

Who comes up with this figure? What statistical formula is used to determine unopened game titles?

right? How in the hell do they track how many of these games have been unwrapped when most of these games are just sitting in basements of private owners?

Are you kidding me? Did you see that shipping cost? What a rip off!

Shipping: $6.00US Postal Service Priority Mail

Also any seller asking that much money and says something like this... throws up a red flag for me:

LOL. Fake bids, for sure. A sealed copy of stadium events is indeed a fantastically rare and valuable item, but not that valuable. I'd expect it to be maybe $25,000 at the highest, and even that is probably a serious stretch.

NO, wow.

That's insane. That is assuredly the highest price point for ANY retail game sale ever. I've seen unreleased alpha builds and other crazy shxt go for more than that (obviously not on ebay, it'd get pulled), but that is NUTS.

I remember when Stadium Events was a $1.5-2k item in the box. When did this happen? I know there's a sealed premium, but that's BONKERS.

Sounds like he really got paid the $40k too, not just a fake high bid.

No kidding, I'm sure he's thinking "I'm RICH, b****!"

Although to Hash's point, I think this is too good to be true for the guy. No way somebody is willing to drop half a mil on a video game. If it's true, that guy is one lucky SOB, but otherwise it looks like there may be a lawsuit coming up.

Think about it from a rich rich collector's viewpoint.

These guys are hardcore collectors. Big time hard core. Boxes and instructions are worth far more than the games themselves.

They might be multimillionaires with lots of disposable income. They want to be the king of the hill in regards to having the best and most complete collection compared to their peers.

So they come across the holy grail of all holy grails for their collection. A brand new sealed copy of game XYZ that was barely ever released and then recalled as soon as it went public. The collectors knows that there are fewer than a hundred or so of those games ever released in the wild. Maybe finding a used copy of the game with no box might be somewhat possible but finding one new in box with factory seal? No way.

Then one pops up on ebay. What are you going to do to be the number one king of all game collectors amongst your peers? You will spend as much as possible to gain that title. You want to be revered by your fellow collectors. You want them to worship you because of the rarity of the games in your collection.

Well to someone like that, maybe that game might be worth nearly any amount of money since money might not mean much to them.

Okay, at $800k, if this is legitimate, I'll eat my socks.

I know a couple fantastically well-off collectors, and they'd never pay this for the game.

One of them has purchased WHOLE game companies, intact, in bankruptcy auctions. He collects the legal copyrights to games, stuff like that. No one pays $800k for an NES title, I don't care how rich they are. People in that stratosphere have cooler things to buy.

EDIT: The only exception is if it is bought by someone like Golden Palace casino, just to advertise themselves. They paid like sixty grand for a piece of toast that looked like the Virgin Mary, if I recall.
