Car: 89 240sx coupe ka24de swap. soon kadet!

Post

I have an 89 240sx that I am almost finished with a ka24de swap

Just installed a msd sci ignition

I found out last week that my stock ignition was not working (3rd junkyard coil) so I bought an msd sci yesterday and finished installing today. Before I could never start the motor for the reasons above, so was never able to check the timing until today.

First try will not start, so I use some starting fluid, starts then dies. First I put some 93 octane thinking old gas (car been sitting for over a year), still would not start with out fluid. Next I check the fuel pump, its working. Then I check the idle screw and turn up, it starts. Then I let the car run wile I went inside the house. When I got back, dam radiator hose broke. I went and got another one put it on and it start back up. I let it warm up to try and check the timing, but the dam light is broke, so I call it a day plug the TPS back up and shut down for the evening.

I try a show my dad what I did so far but it did not start, some thing told me to try it with the TPS unplugged, and it started right up with out any fluid. Thinking it might be something I did wrong, I plug it back up and it will not start with out starting fluid, but it just dies as soon as it burns it off

Any suggestions?

your hard idle switch in the tps is appleid putting the ECM in clear flood start condition. you need to see where the voltage is from the center wire on the tps with the key in the on position. should be at or about .5volts. or you can set it using the hard idle contacts in the tps with an ohm meter and set it so it is on at .008in and off at .012in.You use the feeler gauge at the throttle stop point. and adjust the tps by loosing the 2 bolts holding the tps to the throttle body and turning it.

Ok I checked out what you were saying in my FSM on page EF & EC 11 I find out that the hard idle switch is for auto cars. Now I look and my TPS has one but my car is M/T (I bought the car with about 1/4 of the swap done).

It's not plugged up (I was wondering what that plug was but unable to find out, thanks).

Ok question, it having a A/T TSP going to hurt and will it be easier to fix or just get a M/T TPS? I have an ohm meter but not sure how to use it.

TPS wont matter as far as which trans its used for. It uses the hard idle and w/o throttle on the M/T motor too. The tps is used primarily for trans function on an auto. it is likely not even used on the MT. Just make sure your switch is set properly. WHen using an ohm meter to do the setting, unplug the connector on the tps and check the end 2 terminals. one should read contact at idle and the other should read contact above half throttle. use the feeler gauge on the oppisite side of the throttle body of the TPS where the stop screw hits. DO NOT adjust the stop screw. that is not an adjustment it is a calibration for the throttle plate to the throttle body. you loosen the screws holding the TPS onto the throttle body and adjust that.
