About a month after I installed my coilovers (I did not take it to a shop, and I got an alignment within a hundred miles or so - a day or two later), I began to detect a rattling noise emanating from the back-end of the car. I couldn't figure out what it was - it almost sounded like some portion of the exhaust had been knocked loose, and was beating against the car. It wasn't.

Now I've got a similar sound in the front that developed this evening, and it's accompanied by a thump that's felt in the gas pedal and the steering wheel. Happens on bumpy roads, but not always in conjunction with the biggest bumps. Don't know what's going on.

Am I in danger?

I have a rattling noise in the back of my car to , but its my ghetto bent exhaust piping rubbing the mounting point of my rear toe rod, im not sure if thats helpful though.

but for the thump your feeling in the front, have you checked to make sure everythings installed correctly and everythings tight?

If I can get sufficient reading done for class on Wednesday and Thursday, I was hoping to prop the car up tomorrow afternoon, take the front wheel off, and check to see if everything's still on tight. One of the bolts and plastic tabs had been knocked loose from my headlight assembly on that side, so it's a distinct possibility. Noise went away over the weekend, but then I headed into NYC on the way back, and a sneaky pothole right in front of one of the EZPass lanes to get on the upper George Washington Bridge caught me and started the rattling. I was all happy and stuff; and then NYC had to go and ruin my mood.

Again.

Rear never went away, but it's much less loud, and I don't feel anything from it in the butt-dyno or in the controls. It's the front that makes me nervous. The rear sounds like something that's unavoidable with a metal-on-metal contact like that, but I'll take a swing at it tomorrow, too. Sounds like it's all passenger-side.

Check all the big nuts on the top of the coilovers. It's not too likely that they are your problem but just put a GOOD impact gun on them and make sure they are tight. One of my front and one of my rear godspeed coils were loose after a month or so of driving on them.

I'll give that a shot, thanks!

But I need an impact gun. I installed my coilovers with my buddy in his garage with the use of his tools. He was happy to help because he'd never done suspension work before, but now I'm left to maintain it without tools. Need to buy myself an early Hanukah gift, I think.

I would just swing by some shop that is slow and ask if some one can just gun it down real quick, its pretty simple stuff.
