I was looking around in some junk yards and seen a few turbos and was wondering witch would be the best one to grab for a mild setup. A T3 off of a saab, a T3 off of a z31, a 13b off of a 1g eclipse, and a T25 off of a 2g eclipse.

None of them. Unless you plan on having them rebuilt.

The Z31 is the best bet if you do.

It will be rebuild before it goes in. If you rebuild it your self were do you buy the parts to rebuild it from. Also is there any difference between the saab T3 and the Z31 T3?

Since you don't have the $10,000.00 balancing machine, I don't think rebuilding yourself is wise. While it may work for a while, it won't last because of balancing issues.

Furthermore, the cost of rebuilding old crapped out turbochargers is within $200 of buying a brand new unit, in which case you can choose the exact turbocharger you want.

T3 from z31. choose model after 1987 because they have both water and oil lines.

I think the Saabs are real small. I bought one and found it was a 40 trim which is useless. However, I got the compressor upgraded to a T04E for $200. Now I have a sweet T3/T4 for about $450. I'm selling it but whatever.

But you are talking junkyard turbos. I believe the Z31 is a super 60. Some of the ford turbos, like the Thunderbird with AT have a real nice super 60. I just bought one rebuilt for $350. Get the compressor flanges!!!!!!

If you want to save big money, get one with an internal wastegate. There are turbo shops that will rebuild it for $200 plus change.

Toshima where in Austin are you?

I wouldn't bother with anything from an ancient Ford or Nissan. The turbos will be trashed by that point.

Spend the money and get a decent T04E / T3 from the start.

To be fair people, this guy is looking for a budget build, aparently. There are any number of good, cheap turbos that will give a moderate increase in power. The most popular is the Z31, but may I suggest a T3 from a Ford or GM? They have bigger turbine A/Rs and use the standard 5 bolt flange.

I think the Turbo Coupe was produced from 84 to 87. Just Google "Turbo Coupe History." I'm not sure if you will have too much luck finding one though. There isn't much reason for junk yards to keep them around as none of them are still on the road and steel prices are so high.

I found a good bebuild on Ebay. You just need to make sure they are built & balanced by a legit shop. Also, there are organization that let you search local junk yard inventory online.

I am in South Austin just north of Manchaca.

Down on South Congress before you get to Slaughter lane there is a junkyard called Capitol City Imports. They had a handful of Z31 turbos out there with the turbo still on the car.
