Im thinking of doing a swap on my 91 240sx. But talking to some people they said the ca18det is better for a daily driver. They said the sr20det red top you might run into some problems.. Any body have feed back on this..

Go with the sr, more parts readily available than trying to find OEM ca parts. Good luck

Just keep the KA. Bolt ons and a tune will net yo about 150rwhp; more than enough for some fun.

BUT: I have driven a CA daily for almost 5 years. 1 headgasket and a rod through the block have been the only issues. I love driving a CA daily so much, I just put a fresh one in my DD.

Better for daily driver.Keep the KA. But if you really are keen on a swap, considering, its for daily drive not performance then go SR, More, SRs in the US than CA, thus more support.

Japanese comic thus read, right to left.

there are far more parts for the CA that you can pick up at autozone than any SR.

I daily beat my CA for 2 years before i bought my G. very solid.

I would say that both are almost 20 year old motors andd going to need to both be overhauled before they are even close to reliable. keep the KA.

Gotta disagree on that on Gabby. I have enough friends with SRs that I have worked on to know that there are tons of parts at the parts store. And many times, you don't have to stress on which model to ask for (ala CA18ET or CA18DE).

But I think the thing that all of us are stressing is that the CA is a labor of love. The KA is a great engine with a great aftermarket. I did my CA to be different from the crowd. If you just want some fun, stick with the KA. If you want a TON of aftermarket to make your journey easier stick with the SR. If you want to be "that guy" at the local meet, get the CA.

On a side note, if you are interested in seeing a CA in action, hit me up some time. rjnovak05 AT yahoo DOT com. We can meet up in Irving or something one day and you can check mine out if that helps.

PURE daily driver - automatic transmission on a KA lol. its easy to drive. aftermarket support - SR20local support - about equal in my eyes. i found a TON of parts for both..SR when i was looking to do an SR swap, CA when i decided to buy one and found some threads of which parts i can get! lol

all three are GREAT engines, but if you are just going to DD it, keep the KA. my friend had a SOHC and it was fun, he has a built DOHC right now and gets SUPER gas mileage and its VERY fun...his RB was fun till it took a s***, and the CA hasn't seen the road yet, but will in a few weeks!

I have never had a problem finding anything. maybe it is just the SR people I know....... I would think their coils would be a trick since the USDM SRs are dizzy, but idk.

I'm trying to rememeber what my buddy had to ask for to get a coil for his Blacktop...

I was more saying that there are a lot of in stock parts for the SR as well as the CA. Not that there was more of the other I guess.

gabby is 100% dead on.

i had a jdm rwd de swapped into a gutted 89 coupe for a daily a few years ago. it was a good time.

not much torque, but it was a funmotor to rev out. also helped that i had the 4.30 rear gears with a diff too.

I would go with the ca18det. I mean the fact that alot of usdm ca18de parts work is great.
