Well im off to the emissions test tomorrow. burning oil like its my job and im running rather rich. so, i guess we will see if i pass or not. ill give you the specs tom of the carbons and crap if i dont pass and hopefully i can find a quick fix. if i dont pass ill be waiting to save money for a 300zx mafs and a enthalpy tuned ecu. that will be a few months though.

anyone have any pointers that might help me pass, i do have all my emissions on except i blocked off my egr pipe.

lmk,

Zak

Tell me how it goes! Mine is within the next few weeks.

I'm going make another tune that will burn lean... I hope that will do it...

I heard retard the timing? I'm not sure on that.

Retard the timing if your NOx's are too high.

If your egr is inoperable, you'll most likely have to do that.

Do you have an idle or a driving test?

I would recommend buying a new Dynomax cat. New cats can absorb a lot of stuff.

well the cat is about 2 months old so hopefully that should help, other than that its an run through the gears at i think 25mph on rollers. but from what i hear i can opt for just a idle test if i want so i think im gonna do that. my buddy has an s4 which is awd and he told me they do an idle test for him so i guess i can. one other problem is that i have a check engine light on so i dont know if they see that they will fail me. im gonna put a pic of a girl over it and hope they dont move it. haha

you'll fail it right away if the check engine light is on, and they only do an idle test on those S4 cause they're AWD, i don't think there's a roller for all 4 wheels(cept for dyno's), so they only test the idle on all AWD vehicles.(or most, cept for newer which just check for the ecu and check engine light:))

haha, i dont see what the difference would be if i did or didnt. ill ask them for sure though. about the engine check light, im putting a pic over top of it in hopes that they wont see the light. if that doesnt work the next time around ill take out the light bulb behind it. how much more should i retard the timing?

Something makes me think they're gonna move the picture and see the light.

yeah, i would probably go behind the gauges and disconnect the light just to be safe. it only takes about 10 minutes to do, why not? it might end up saving your test.

The problem with that is, when you start the car the Check Engine light comes on for a brief period to show you the light is working. If it doesnt come on they know the light is not working and they can either fail you for that or run a OBD scan to see if there are any codes.

TicTakman - is your car OBD1 or 2? If it's OBD2, they will attach a scanner and read the ecu, even if you pull the bulb. If they get anything other than "ECU ready" on the scanner, you don't pass... end of story.

If your OBDI... I'm not sure how that works. I've never had an OBDI vehicle that wasn't completely stock.

i passed. put the pic up and they didnt even move it. the hc was 17.8the co was 0.00the co2 was 14.33gas cap was 28.60

i retarded the timing to about 12 degrees and i guessed that helped. my car is obd 1 thank god. also, i asked for a idle test pc my camber kit and coilovers, they said no problem. the above tests were at a 2500 rpm idle.

Awesome.

This is one of the reasons why I'm still trying to find a clean '95 OBDI 5spd to start my KA-T project on.

Ok, so how about removing the bulb, then putting a picture on it...

well if you were to remove the bulb there would be no reason to have the pic up because the check engine light wouldnt be illuminated then. get it?

haha yep, i think that test is pointless now. ive heard rumors that they are trying to remove the law. anyway, i think they liked the car too much to pay attention to the light. i never even had to get out my registration for the car. haha guess i lucked out for another 2 yrs....

wow, you're lucky man, that **** would never fly here. The only way to pass something like that in cali is to know someone.
