I gave up for the day.... it was 95 in the shade and I was sweating like a hog, and after 10 hours, I called it a day.

I got the KA yanked, and the CA motor put in. I am still waiting on my clutch, so I just put the stocker back in for now, and if it shows up tomorrow, I can put it on no problem, just need to pull the long block again. So tomorrow it looks like I am going to be tackling the clutch/transmission install, intercooler and piping install, and wiring it up. Here is my question....

I guess I just wire it up like an SR right? I got the "how-to" from srswap.com on what needs to be changed. It looks like I am going to ditch the AC since the CA compressor won't fit the fittings on the KA. I can always hook it back up later, but I am lazy and don't honestly feel like tackling that right now. And that looks like that is the only wire I have to change on the connectors. Everything else looks like it will connect right together. But if I do have to move wires around, do I modify the CAR/KA side of the harness or the CA/Motor side of the harness?

Also.... any changes to be made to the connector under the dash. I have a 92, so I know the plugs are physically the same, but do all the wires match up or do I have to move them around a bit too?

Also.... Jon, I know you are reading this. Can you draw me up a rough picture on Paint or something like that to show me what you did with the vacuum lines again. My pics I took cut out all the good stuff. Basically I just have to cap off those 3 off the back, and the big one from the air regulator looks like it goes into the intake pipe so that is taken care of. I think you just capped off one of the smaller lines from the throttle body since you said it didn't have enough juice to run a boost gauge and just spliced in the swirl control valve into the other vacuum line that is next to it. Is that right?

Thanks!

Joe

ok

the vacum port on the back of the plenum, that runs the FPR and the butterfly control thingy, use the tee to connect them togther and put it into the plenum

the vacum port under the throttle plate plug,

the vacum port on the side of the plenum behind the throttl cable thingy, that runs the BOV, and the Boost gauge

those hard pipes you should have taken out, they are ugly.

Ok.... got the vacuum lines straightened out. Got the AC compressor off the motor too and ditched the AC lines. The KA lines won't fit in the CA compressor, so I just ditched it.

Got the front two mounts in and bolted up, but when I tried to get the rear transmission mount on, it was about a 3/4 of an inch too short. WTF? I have no idea on how this can be too short. And it looks like the copper/gold colored ring on the end of the transmission is hitting the 6 bolts on the yoke. What gives?

And to top it all off..... I waited and waited for the UPS guy to show up with my clutch today. I got fed up on waiting for him and needed to get the engine in and the hoist back to the rental place, so I just put the good stock clutch back in. After 4 times of lining it up and yanking all apart again because it wouldn't fit it went in on the last try. Got the motor up on the hoist and in the car she went. A DAMMIT if the FedEX guy doesn't show up and has my clutch....:chainsaw Late Deliveries.

At that point I am too pissed to do anything about it.... fuggit the stock clutch stays for now. I'm not REpulling the motor to put the clutch in.

So....... motor in, only on 2 mounts. Rear mount doesn't fit right. Transmission hits the driveshaft...... CLUELESS on the wiring. I don't have ANY of the colors listed on the srswap site. I know it's for an SR, but even my car side wires don't match up.

Jon... I think I will take you up on that help this weekend. Lunch, Dinner, Beer included.... as long as you like BW3'S :)

are all ca swaps in general this much fun? if they are then it looks like this will become a winter project for me... seeing as how this'll be my first engine swap. i like threads like these because they are very informative. gives people a better idea of things they might encounter. i hope things work out w/ the rest of your swap. :D

man , they are fun, but trying also , but its a great experiance and i wouldnt trade any of it for nothing, ive learned alot about motors, cars, turbo systems, and that is one thing ive always dreamed of since i was little, i wanted to restore a hotrod when i was little my family doesnt have enough money to pay the bills let alone have a project like that , so now that i have a decent paying job no bills really since im still livin with rents, i get to put alot of time and money into a cool car, and my education! its experiance that may just help me in the future career wise .

Remove the little cup at the end of the transmission, then the driveshaft will slide in completely.

As for the mount, it should bolt up. Try swapping it for the KA one. Try swapping the metal bracket first. If it still wont line up, swap the rubber mount itself.

Just a lack of planning..... I got the motor and had all these plans for it and wasn't going to put it in until I had EVERYTHING on it that I wanted. But the more it sat in the garage, the more I wanted to put it in. So I went up, rented a hoist and started doing it. I actually had to have Jon come down today and help me out with the wiring a bit too. He and his buddy got the interior harness worked out for me, but we ran out of time before he could do the battery wiring. But, he showed me what needed to be done, and it doesn't look all that bad.

BTW.... BIG props to Jon for driving down and helping me out. I really appreciate it bro...

And as for the rear mount not lining up. I just pulled off that copper peice and it all went together like peas and carrots. But it's little things like that that you don't think about when you are putting the motor in. Apparently the JDM drive shaft is different than the USDM driveshafts. THe JDM one has a true U-Joint up front by the transmission yoke. The USDM one has 3 "rubber bands" for a lack of a better word that bolts together into the 1st section of the driveshaft. It looks like the US shaft is actually 3 peices... bizzare.

But..... I'm almost done!!! Couple more hours worth of work and it's test fire time!

joe, wasnt a problemn comming down, i wish we would have had a bit more time, either way we would have cut it short since that freaking storm blew through, you guys get hit at all? i almost had to pull off it was so bad, i was sliding all over the road and 240 windshield wipers suck for heavy rain like that

good new was that as we neard centerville it had stopped raining and was drying up, so we stopped at the meet spot, and a ton of cars showd, few kentucky guys and a lot of nice cars, no racing though too many cops showed up near the end.

oh im goin out this morning to finish disecting my harness. ill draw up a diagram of it and post it. that way we all understand the wiring of it ! its been so long since i had the tape off the harness i forgot how butcherd that thing was! and then for it to not start up kinda scared me.. let this be a lesson to yah all , make sure all plugs are plugged togther good!!!

i think i may solder it and shrink rap it now that i see the previous shops work was that bad

well im out,

we need a nissan meet in dayton soon!
