In the 89 240sx there is a clock on the dash i dont know if this is true for all years. I bought the car last week and wanted to install my pioneer deck. I wanted to hard wire the system without the sockets and when i cut off the existing sockets the clock stopped working and my stereo powe was dead. This morning i was fiddling around and while i was checking the fuses the clock came on and there was power to the stereo. at this point the stereo wiring was all grouped into the deck together, possibly joing a connection, but when i went to pull the wires out for more slack the power died on the clock. I know there was power to the stereo cause the speaker was staticy from a connection to the 12v i assume. plz help. I predict that maybe two of the wires in the mess of things should be connected in order to complete a circuit but really have no clue.

I suggest you go wire back in the harness, buy an aftermarket harness connector, wire that up correctly outside of the vehicle then go and plug it in, like EVERY audio shop does. Why you would want to hard wire it in is beyond me.......

i installed a new stereo for my pops in his cherokee. when u pull out the old stereo there should be a diagram on it of what each wire does. you can then carefully cut wires and connect them to the right ones on the new stereo. also double check if that diagram is the front or back(wireside) of the connector.

If u connect it wrong and short it either the Ignition Over Draw fuse or the stereos own fuse will blow... be careful.

I have heard of little adapter things that let u just plug it imbetween the stereo and the old connector but i dunno... just go slow and be patient. remember shorting is baaaaaadd!!!

Every car audio installer uses an adapter plug. It is a harness that plugs directly into your stock plugs and lets you wire in your aftermarket head unit to this harness outside of the vehicle. All the wire colors will match up. Go to http://www.crutchfield.com and get one for your car, hard wiring it in is just a gigantic headache and bound to leave you blowing fuse upon fuse, if not totally melting something, and has absolutely no benefit. Do it right
