Okay, my 1995 G20t has been having an intermittant starting problem where the engine comes on and then stalls. I took it to my mechanic who said that the signal to open the air valve is only getting there some of the time. However, the relay associated seems to be fine. He also said that my tachometer bouncing may be related. In short, he says its a wiring problem that will take time to diagnose. Any information that might help speed the process up would be greatly appreciated.

The valve can be checked rather quickly using a Consult-2 (Infiniti/Nissan scan tool). Technician can go into work support-active test and overide the ECM to manually open the valve in percentages, at the same time go to the connector and see if the voltage varies accordingly. That system isn't that complicated to diagnose. Is the engine stalling whether hot or cold? Stalling only in drive or reverse? The boot torn between the throttle body and air filter housing? When did the concern start happening? Giving the tech as much information as possible can sometimes be the difference between an hour diagnose fee to several hours.

It only stalls on startup, so once it's running it runs like a dream. That's the weirdest part. It seems that the valve is not receiving the signal to open on startup.

Would reccomend pay the dealer for the consult testing and diagnose and get the correct diagnose the first time instead of trying parts or other means of repairing.
