Hi ya'll, can anybody help me--or rather, my local dealership--with a door lock wiring issue?

Several weeks ago, me and my 2008 Rogue SL AWD got hit in the driver's side door. Couple of weeks ago, the auto body shop gave her back to me. However, the driver's side door controls didn't work very well: Doors wouldn't unlock; also, windows wouldn't raise/lower.

The body shop tried installing a new door controller, but this didn't fix the problem. After hours of troubleshooting (by the way, all door actuators and key fob are okay), the body shop sent my car over to Nissan dealership. Several days later, still no joy. Have to bring car back to dealerhsip next week. Service advisor says to plan to leave her there awhile, since this has turned into a real PITA for them.

Would sure like to find a way to help them figure this out sooner rather than later. Several more days without my car (elderly, infirm relatives, too much on my To Do list) is going to make me cwazy(ier). They believe they've narrowed the problem down to the car's door wiring.

One thing that bothers me is a snarky remark the service advisor made when I picked the car up Fri PM (to go to work): "Did your insurance make the auto body buy a skinned (used) door?" I took this to mean the dealership plans to show somebody no mercy on the hours.

Very nervous about this. Any ideas on what could cause a brand-new driver's side door control to work in all ways--windows up, windows down, doors lock--everything but the car doors just won't unlock?

If its already getting fixed why post?

But, Wiring could of got snipped. Is it plugged in?
Could be wrong parts? 2011 has intelligent key don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Well since window doesn't work too. Could be just wiring got snipped in the wreck.

Thanks for the reply. It's a 2008 with keyless remote; key fob just needs to be nearby to start the car. Unsure if that's the same thing as an "intelligent key" or not. Will have them check to see if replacement "skinned" door is a 2011 w/"intelligent key" (or otherwise incompatible with pre-existing keyless remote system).

As for why post if it's getting fixed: I understand from reading other posts that accessing Rogue door panels is a $%#@...just wanted to try and save several more days without a car if at all possible. The auto body shop and now Nissan dealership both seem quite clueless about fixing this issue.

I begin to wonder if it could have something to do with actuator after all: Door locks, just won't unlock. grrr.

Grateful to have a car, grateful for cold air in this TX heat, but come on, why does a door lock have to cost $$$ in repairs just because it's a PITA to troubleshoot?

The power window is attached to a single large panel that covers the entire door. Getting inside the door usually requires removal of the entire panel including the window.

I would ask the dealer how much you you've incurred cost wise. Alternatively, I would ask for an estimate.

Normally, I would recommend going to another dealer if you have issues. But now it depends if you want to forfeit that work and start all over again at another dealer.

Thanks for reply, philipa_240sx. Just called the body shop. He said they put the original wiring inside the new door. So unless there's some damage or crimp or something they couldn't find, and the dealership won't eventually locate either...guess there's really no point to start all over elsewhere. No wheels just makes me antsy. Thanks again.

I kinda have the same issue. My 2009 Rogue was in a front right collision in May and everything was fine when I got it back, but about a week ago the front passenger door lock stopped working. If you manually lock it, it works, but will not set or unset electronically or with the door controls. I looked down inside the door and can see that the wire is plugged in to the lock mechanism. Any suggestions??

I don't mean to get off the topic but I want to just chime in about any body shop whose work is guaranteed by an insurance company. This is my opinion only and experience, but a body shop would be less than truthful if giving the opportunity.

For instance, when my mother's Toyota camry went in for repair once because there were all these dent's all over the left side. As if somebody banged it with a mallet and banged all over the side.

Well when I dropped the car off, the guy says they will replace the driver's side door for safety reason because supposedly the integrity of the door was compromised.

In my mind, I thought these are only dents and can't they just repair it. Of course, it's my mom's car and her insurance and who am I to say anything about how it is fixed. But of course I was skeptical of changing the door for a new one but I am not there to argue. They said the door would be changed.

Well when I got the car back, I asked if this was a new driver's door and he said yes. But of course I knew otherwise since I could tell it was the same old door. But I just wanted the car back, so why argue that it's not a new door. I presume a WHOLE new door. No matter what I say, they will believe only what comes out there mouth.

The point is, maybe some people won't have problems with their doors if it was truly a NEW door.

But does that mean all these Rogues were in a very major accident? I just don't see insurance companies paying for new doors.

I actually still get my car fixed at this body shop if given the opportunity. All body shops are a crap shoot these days. :ohno:
