I pulled my starter last night thinking it had gone bad. It passed the bench test, just needed to shim it. While I was putting it back in I found a wire without a connector about the same place in the harness as the spade connector to the solenoid. Its about 5 inches long, so it would just reach the starter. I've looked at the wiring diagram, but I can't figure out where it supposed to go. I be pulling the alternator out and replace it today. The voltage regulator is bad on it. I don't know if the issues are somehow related or if I'm just have a run of bad luck.

I love the test light. Connect a test light to it and the other end to ground, turn the switch to start. If it lights its the wire for the solenoid. Just add a spade clip (female) and connect.

Don't think that's it. The wire to the solenoid is in place.

While we're talking about wiring, how do I replace the fusible link? Couldn't find anything in the archives about it.

I completely removed mine. Cut the wire where the joint is after the terminal. Extend the wire to reach the terminal and connect to the terminal. Before you do this, remember the fusible link is a safety to prevent the truck from burning in case of severe electrical shorts occurring. :bigthumb:

My harness has the oil light wire exiting there also. If your oil light is working, it could a wire for tapping current for cold starts from the solenoid. It connects to the solenoid opposite the wire from the battery. :woot:
