So my stock 92 KA lately has been acting real funny. it idles anywhere from 500-1500rpms and is intermittent, but has been happening more and more. I thought it was a vacuum leak; sprayed everything down with carb cleaner.

No Change...

I moved the wiring harness around, and and the idle dropped significantly. I started to dive into the harness, next to the TPS and found this abomination:

think this may be the cause of my problem? it looks like multiple wires, same color connected to one, is this on oem splice that nissan did or a botched repair job. the wire is black with a silver tracer.

Can anyone help me out please?

Looks like a hack job......

But Nissan uses black with silver for ignition power on a lot. I would cut out that nasty solder job and re solder and heat shrink it and them see if it helps.

I have also looked through wiring diagrams with no available help.

PAHC is wrong. thats OEM. welcome to Nissan's wiring prowess.

they put a sort of black tar over most of the junctions underhood and then wrap it in tape to seal it from corrosion.

problem is, that s*** heats up, melts JUST a little and wicks into the strands of wire and causes problems.

check your battery ground to chassis, chassis ground to motor, and both your battery terminals. COMMON culprits.

Thanks Mr. Greeneyes

I have new terminals on both poles of the battery and a brand new ground strap for the battery also. I guess I'll clean this crap/ resolder and go from there.

on both of my s14s I've had the same wiring problem. it would cause it to kind of jerk while driving and sometimes idle so low it would stall when I came to a stop. Both turned out to be the same thing: a break in the harness. A shop found it on my first 240, and I found it on my second one since I pretty much knew what it was. It took a few hours because it was an internal break, so I couldn't tell just by looking at the wire. I dont know if this is helping at all, but I'm just letting you know that it might be a common problem with 240s

Just an update:

Turns out that splice was the culprit, i soldered them back together and this car now drives like a dream again. I also had an intermittant starter relay. All replaced and all is well again, thanks for the help guys!
