I was asking a few of these questions in my build thread on here, but I figure a lot of people weren't seeing that.

I have a problem, the white with black stripe wiring at the ecu (eccs?) relay got hot and melted at an event this last weekend and need some help diagnosing and fixing it. My bf is the one who wired the harness last year and it has not been a problem until now.

Here is the more in depth info:

At the event on Saturday a blue with red stripe wire melted in the chassis harness first. We later found out it was a power wire to the ABS block connectors which we removed a long time ago. It went from the passenger wheel well, around the front harness, and through the driver side wheel well and into the cabin. It looked to have rubbed though to bare wire on the driver side wheel well.

The next day at the event the wiring under the dash near the ecu started to smoke and the car died. a white wire with a black stripe and silver bands was melted near the ECU. That wire continued onto a wire junction where it came out a couple wires. Those wires went into a relay that was hanging under the dash; it had the white wires going in and coming out melted. Followed the wires and one went into another wire junction and the other one was soldered onto a red wire with silver bands (the melting ended at the larger red wire). Traced the first wire to the MAF wiring. It was not melted the whole way though. The second white wire that became that red wire traced to the large gray connector partly connecting the chassis harness to the engine harness. Traced the wire out of that connector and it went into the passenger side fuse box into the “ENG CONT” fuse.

Last night my bf started to re-wire that relay and still needs some help confirming if it is wired correct and what a mystery wire is. I took a video for explanation:

Going back to work on the car later today, any input is appreciated!

You melted the main power wiring 12v constant for the engine wiring and probly the chassis too. 12v constant shorted to ground and you will need to find the short then repair all the wires

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I know that it shorted and that it was the main power wiring, I was mainly asking if the relay was repaired correctly as explained in the video I posted. Also needed to know what the one 'mystery' wire was that was also in the video.

If anyone could help with that that would be awesome, I'm heading back out to the shop now

You should be able to save the relay, Just replace the wire ater the connection and heat shrink.
