wiring for radio and heating/ac control

after a few years of reading i decided to join the forum, so i am no longer a "lurker". i caught the J30 bug in 2002 when i bought my '95 with 50k miles and haven't let go of it since. truth is i love it. but someone broke into it recently and took the radio and a/c control head and even the mounting brackets and wood bezel, leaving behind a mess of cut wires. i replaced the control head and mounting bracket immediately because it also controlled turn signals. it was a fairly easy replacement because i just matched up the wires from the head to the cut wires in the console. which brings me to my problem.

there are a lot of wires left, presuming they go to the stereo. but somewhere in there i have missed the wire that dims the control head when the headlights are on...the temp display just blacks out now instead of dimming. problem is...the wires from the control head are all matched up. does anyone here have any advice? thanks for your help and thanks for this forum participation.

thanks for referring this to me. at first glance the answer doesn't jump out at me but i will continue to search. it's more technical than what i'm used to but time and study usually remedies that.
