Hi All,

I had a question about replacing the 02 sensor on a 2000 I30t. When splicing the wires, there were two white wires and 1 black wire. Does it matter which white wire is attached to which white wire? After replacing the sensor my check engine light is still on. I am not sure if I should swap the white wire connections.

Thanks

MORE INFO:My check service engine light is on and the scan said it was code P0135. I was told that this error was for a malfunction of the heater circuit for oxygen sensor 1 bank 1. I bought a Universal part hoping to save money, and pulled the sensor that can be seen by looking toward the engine from behind the front passenger side wheel. We spliced the wires and put the new sensor in, but I am still recieving the same error.

"Universal" is a euphemism for "Not designed for your vehicle."

Try OEM from Joe and his crew.

Or the correct TDK one (call to verify part number) from

So is the idea that without OEM parts we are SOL on any issues, or is that mainly with just O2 sensors?

There are very few aftermarket parts that get a wide-spread thumbs up here... for the most part the OEM parts are the best compromise between performance and longevity.

Thanks for the responses. Can anyone please confirm that I was at least working on the correct O2 sensor? It was sensor 1 bank 1. Would hate to mess up again

Thanks

Off of the top of my head, I don't know what sensor 1, bank 1 means. I think it's probably the top one (pre cats) on the front side, but I don't know for sure. I would think there are 4 sensors on the car, one for each bank before the cats, and one on each bank after.

You need a copy of the factory service manual - which can be downloaded free here.

Download it and then google for some freeware to decompress the .rar file.

Thanks,

I have had the service manual for awhile and have used it. I find some of the pictures very tough to follow, and that is the case with the oxygen sensors as well. Someone in another thread posted a link to Technical Service Bulletin NTB02-051a which has a great picture, and which is the one I used.

if you replaced the sensor on the firewall side you got the right one. it is buried up above the cat near the halfshaft. you should ck the o2 sensor fuses also. there is a tsb for wire harness breakage that can cause a lot of different trouble codes as well. ITB 01-072a.
