I wouldn't suggest it, Its a hefty fine to have your fog lights on during non-fog conditions. I got fined 200 dollars for having mine on (at night) during clear weather. If you do it, be aware of the consequences, especially if you have no ability to turn them off.

Your lucky then, I got pulled over in my G35 for having "aftermarket" headlights that were too bright, and had to spend 30 minutes showing the cop that it was completely stock. The cops arn't very friendly up here since the new budget cuts came around.

One thing the guide doesn't tell you to do is remove the battery leads to start. Whenever you're doing electrical work on the car its always safest to disconnect the battery before starting.

I also didn't realize how that mod worked, I thought he was going to use them 24/7, I'm liking the idea of being able to use my fogs without headlights on, something I may do myself now. Thanks Tiger

As with any electrical mod, you should always disconnect the negative battery cable. You can use the 10mm socket to do so. After the battery cable is disconnected, you can proceed to locate your area of operation and familiarize yourself with it.



You must remove the coolant overflow reservoir in order to do this. Once you have located the reservoir, remove it. To do so, simply use your needle nose pliers to loosen the hose clamp holding the coolant reservoir hose to the reservoir, and slide the reservoir out.









Next, remove the relay box cover. There are small clips on either side that will allow the removal of the cover. Once the cover is removed you can locate the three or four relays that need to be removed to allow removal of the relay box. In this case, I had to remove three; the 'FR FOG LAMP', 'HORN 2', and 'AIR CON' relays.





In the next few pics, you will see the 10mm bolts that removal is required to proceed. The entire relay box must be removed in order to complete this modification.



There is a clip at the front base of the relay box as well. It must be removed, too.





Now we are ready to move on. We have the relay box out, relays removed, and plenty of work area since the coolant reservoir was removed. A few more steps and you will be half way done.

The box is snapped together on either side of the relay box. Using the needle nose pliers to release these snaps will separate the box and expose the wiring.









Now, see the somewhat oval hole here just above the headlight housing?



Put your flathead there when you are not using it so you do not lose it.



Time to locate the wires you will need to cut, splice, and jump to in order to use your fog lights whenever you want. The first wire to locate and cut is the dark green wire with a yellow stripe underneath the fog light relay plug. Once you locate this, use the wire cutters to cut this wire. Then you will want to cap off the wire coming from the vehicles wiring harness.







Now you can take jumper wire and strip either end with the wire strippers. Also, go ahead and strip the end of the dark green wire coming from underneath the relay box. Twist one end of the jumper wire together with the dark green wire below the relay box. After they are twisted together you can slide the crimp cap over top of the wires and crimp the cap to the wires.













The next step will be locating the light green wire below the wiper relay plug underneath the relay box. We are going to use the wire strippers to only expose a section of the wire. This open section is where you will tie in the jumper wire. After attaching the jumper wire to the light green wire, I chose to wrap the connection in an abundance of electrical tape.

Having heat shrink, or optional wire splicing connectors would have been ideal, but I did not realize that I was out of both until I got to this step. This is where "The 6 P's" come in to play. (Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance)











Now, it's time to test out the work.

One last one you might want to check is fogs and High Beam. I had H7 HID's which were low beam only, thus no need for me to try that out. If you still have your stock setup, feel free to test that out as well.

Lastly, reverse the removal instructions and put everything back together. Hopefully you will not have anything left over. Enjoy!

Nice writeup!!! I just installed the KPtechnologies module on my car to run only the fogs using the stock switch, it's a great mod...

So what else did you get fined for? I have a hard time a MA cop would pull you over for just that if you were driving like a responsible human being and not drawing attention to yourself.

I have done this "mod" and use it all the time. Hell they go on as soon as the sun starts setting.

Took a left turn at a place where they had recently tossed the sign up (Brand New Lowes Had Opened). It was a complete mistake on my part and I told the officer so. It was the end of the month and they were just pulling everyone over, they had 3 of us lined up in a row. I think they were just racking up as much money as they could. Its my only ever infraction so I'm generally a reasonable driver, just bad timing to decide a sign was poorly placed.

I've also had my ride height measured and intake checked when I was at an Impromptu meeting of import cars, a crackdown on "Street Racing" I was told. It just depends where you are and when you're there, if they don't have a good reason I agree they won't charge you, like I got let go in that situation.

Not sure how different the 4th gen is from the 6th gen, but $50 for a module vs $2 for a piece of wire and a wire connector makes little to no since IMHO. I even did this similar mod to two IS300's yesterday and the guys were amazed at what little time and materials it took.

Now on the other hand, the KPT module is probably much safer and a very clean install.

Ok so they pulled you over for another reason. And added that on. That's normally how stuff like that goes.

And I would laugh if I got a ticket for a modified intake since there is no law in MA that says you can not modify your intake.

No offense to you but I was interested in this subject because I know how strict the laws in Cali are, and judging by our taxes I'd assume our laws are just as bad. I went to my local station and asked them about Intakes in Massachusetts. They told me that you CAN modify your intake and exhaust as long as it is no louder than stock. If they deem it to be louder than stock (Extremely Arbitrary) even if you're not on the road, you can be fined $100 dollars under section 90-16 for "Offensive Operation of a Vehicle". It doesn't matter if your exhaust is stock if they think its "Louder than stock" for other reasons (Turbo, ect.) However being friends with a state trooper I was told unless they're having a bad day, no one is going to charge you with this unless you run into a very not-nice cop.

I'm also pretty sure they can't make you open your hood without a warrant, they're only allowed to look at what they can see (Usually the exhaust) from the exterior.

My girlfriends dad's a state trooper, I'm not an idiot on the roads. I made a judgment call to ignore a sign that was going to inconvenience me 10 minutes because I was late, it happens. I just don't want other people to be ponying up that extra 200 dollars tacked onto a 50 dollar moving violation. It's nice to know other people in Mass care about their Maxima's, I've seen a lot in disarray

Yes you cannot modify your exhaust to make it louder or remove mandated equipment,ie cats. I've read the laws plenty of times it mentions nothing about the intake. I've passed inspections every year with no problems and even when I was pulled over, full throttle threw 1st tried saying I was going 50 LOL, they mentioned NOTHING about the intake noise. And that was one of those wonderful stingy little town cops.

Another way is to make a short extension harness between the plug to the running light and the running light. In the extension harness make a T in the power to the light, run it to a relay, Source power to the relay with a fused wire to the battery.

Get a replacement connector to go to the light and a connector that would plug into it.

Get 2 connectors to plug into the fog lights. Or just get one of the after market harnesses that plug into the fog lights and come with a relay.

You will still need the T harness at the running light.

It will be all plug and play

Hi,
I recently replaced the fog light bulbs on 2000 infiniti i30 but fog lights are not working. Tried different approaches shown/mentioned online but still the problem persists. Do we have any fog light fuse if yes where exactly it is located, any suggestions please.

@jltibbs: I have a 2004 i35 and the relay box looks different from the one in you screens. I'm not sure if the cable colors are different as well. I will have to remove the whole thing to check.

but can you confirm if it is the same?
