Hey all,

Just swapped in an SR20 into my s13 and need some helping wiring in the electric fans. Ive read a few different ways, most being completely upsurd. Which is the best way without creating a flaming 240? Do you tap into a relay and run it to a switch? Or wire it as a standalone with its own relay / inline fuse.

The best way to do it, is the have a temp sensor switch a relay that in turn initiates the fans. A way that works, is to have a power source that is only on when the motor is on turning on a relay that initiates the fans. It's not optimal, but it does work well. Don't ever use the A/C fan relay to turn fans on, unless you'd like to run near overheating at all times. You want fans to turn on around 180°F. The A/C relay if I remember correctly, doesn't turn on until around 205°F.

So wire in a temp sensor switch and relay and have it tapped into the ignition?

Like this one (non-adjustable turn on temp)

or this one (adjustable turn on temp)

I've used both multiple times with no problems. The probe can be stuck right thru the fins on a thick aftermarket radiator, or even just right across the fins.
