Hi all, Im in the process of rewiring my electric fan to run full time and after searching still have a couple questions.

(1) the relay im using has 4 posts 12v in (87), 12v out (30/51),12v switch 86), and ground (85). does the ground from the fan go to the relay ground(85) or do I have to ground both the fan and relay sepertely?(2) Do I have to use butt connectors when connecting the wire to the relay or can I solder them?(3) This might be kinda dumb but how do I connect the wire to battery in order to get the 12v in for the relay, do i just wrap it around the terminal?

thats all im kinda new to electronics so want to be sure before I start cutting wires. Thanks in advance!!!

1. i believe they are seperate grounds2. you can solder the wires on3. look into how car audio wires are set up to the battery, you can get a dist. block that attached to the + terminal, or you can find a fuse that only has power when the car is on and just tap into that

Thanks, my + battery terminal has a large red connector with some wires comming out of it so I guess that must be the distribution block. This is the final thing to do to the car, then once it stops snowing (yes its snowing ) I can take it out of the garage after 5 months of storage.......lousy winter!

A distribution block for audio (as an example used earlier) is actually a separate unit. That isn't necessary for set up really.

If you are using stock battery terminals, replace them w/ some beefier ones, like from kragen/sears/whatnot. You can get ones that have extra outlets(holes) or ones w/ screws on them. Then you just crimp a ring terminal on one end of the wire and attach that to the battery terminal.

That's how I wired my elec fan.

And why do you want it to run full time? When I did that to mine, the car wouldn't warm up, HAHA (I also have alum radiator). I just got a hayden thermo switch from kragen, works most of the time (only pooped on me once, so I had to reset it - good thing it was cold out).

Well I removed my clutch fan so I figured that the electrical fan would need to run full time to compensate, and it dosen't get too hot where I live even in the summer so overheating probally won't be a problem. (this is the little stock fan BTW) I will definatly get a better distrubition block, it will probally come in handy down the road anyways.

You have the pins wrong. Pin 30 is 12v in and 87 is power out to the fan. Yes you will need a ground for the relay and one for the fan motor.
