My '93 Q45 has some real wiring challenges. Most of the wiring near the dashboard is brittle. I have replaced several several strands. Now my antenna goes up and down, the starter relay is reliable, and front fan of the radiator goes one and off (when it is supposed to, as opposed to sometimes, whenever). I can only imagine that there are other wirng challenges that are part of the little nagging challenges about the car. Fuel tank flap and trunk. Sunroof. Horn. Two live wires that I do not know where they go (they are taped off now).

My question is : Is it worth having the wiring harnesses replaced by a dealership? I live in Lafayette, LA. and I do not know of a private mechanic who I would trust to do a project like that. I can imagine that it is a labor intensive job.

As a WAG, would it cost more than $600 to replace the wiring harnesses? I know that is a vaue question, but any info would greatly increase what i know about this problem.

Thanks,Mitch

Must be the swamp fumes/flood car?.......I'll bet the harness alone cost $600+ and the 2 days labor to disasemble the dash et al.

Never seen one that needed it or had it done. But Georgia is a pretty benign enviroment unless the rats [more common in Lexus] get in there..........recycled MacD wrappers for insulation.............in EU wiring harness must now [2005] be totally biodegradable.

Originally a Florida car. I think the sun in SoFla baked the plastics. All of the wiring harness' flexible covering is falling to pieces, crumbling as it were. I am hoping that the magic swamp humidity and vapors will soften the plastics a bit.

thanks for the idea of the prices. Sounds about what I feared.

I stole this and it deserves some though as a moderators mantra.
