Wiring/Battery Problem

Ok well, Some electronics work, like, headlights, But, the button to have the headlights flip up, doesnt work, along with everything else.

Its a 89 240SX Hatch

and I know the problem, Its just how to fix it.

I will show you on the bottom of the post a picture of where its at.

But you connect the positive and negative wire to the battery. And on the positive one is an adapter where you plug two adapters in.

There is like a gooey yellow stuff in it.

Is there anything I can do to clean it out so I get power in the car?

Would it be bad to use water or liquid? Do I have to rewire it?

Water and baking soda does a good job. But I think the yellow goo is probably just some sort of battery terminal protector to keep the terminal from corroding and you have a different problem.

Ive seen the protectant, by thats not the same thing im dealing with.

Its INSIDE the adapter, making the medal inside it from touching the medal in the adapter, and its keeping it from getting any power.
