THIS IS FOR S14 ONLY

i originally brought this up in this post:zerothread?id=149359

i wanted stock funcionality, where as most of the installs ive read about have the fans wired to turn on high with the car, which wastes power, shortens the life span of the fans, etc

this would make a nice sticky maybe?

now i have a diagram to post up of exactly what i did

here's the stock diagram, taken from the FSM i believe ( used the chiltons, its simpler, also, my diagram is based off the chiltons)

and this is the modified one

i tapped two 30A relays, one each into the stock relays, to control the power to the 2nd fan. i ran power from the terminal inside the fuse box in the engine bay to those relays, then out to the 2nd fan

then i ran the two new power wires out to the 2nd fan, made a notch in one of the covers for the stock harness, put the wires through there

I ran the ground wires to the battery but it's not neccessary, since you can ground them to the chassis anywhere or in my case, run them to one of the aftermarket ground wire connections on the motor

1st fan gets plugged into the stock plug

2nd fan gets wired to the two newly installed relays, the green wires are the power wires i believe

you have to pop out the stock relays, which is kidna a PITA, but its all fairly simple

Thanks to my buddy Paul (adikt on the forums) for figuring out the wiring for this, and helping with the wiring, as well as Konrad (shift knob, not on NICO i think) for pics and arguing about this

i am pretty positive this works for the s13 as well, i will be able to figure out if it works on cars with SR's as well

this can also be adapted to work with aftermarket fans, which we might do on my friends SR s13 if the SR ecu has the same function

its definately not as simple as wiring them to just run with the car on, but nothing anyone with some wires, connectors, and crimps can't do, if anybody has questions , my AIM is matt4pl

since there is an interest in how to do this with s13's, i'm gonna look into it further and post a write wiring diagram for that too. i don't have a spare s13, so no full write up, sorry

very very very nice write up. was wondering then that this means only one of ur fans stays on all the time? also with altima fans, our one electric fan plug will plug right up with one of the altima fans?

well yea, 1st fan is plugged directly into teh stock plug, the 2nd one is a mirror image of that system, so teh 2nd fan will do wahtever the 1st one is doing, on an s13, i dunno, gotta look into it

i wouldn't wire the fans so that only the ecu controls the fans.they won't turn on unless the a/c is on or the engine is over heating.the proper way to do it is to hook it up to the ecu and a thermoswitch.

i never had overheating issues when i was running just the stock single electric, in chicago summer heat, so the system works well enough

Hi, I just wired my s14 following your instructions, (thank you very much for the write-up by the way), but instead of using generic 30 amps relays I used OEM relays since I had a **** load of them, exactly the same ones already used for the ac fan. I just had a question on how the control is done, I started the car and let it run for 5 minutes and revved a bit, but the fans never started, I assume the a/c has to be on for them to engage, or when the coolant reaches a certain temperature, but what temperature is it? I'm thinking of adding an electrical temperature switch just in case. Also, when does the speed go from low to high? And isn't there a need to put 2 30amps fuses beween the relays and the power wire?

Thanks

I know man I was just commenting bc the thread is so old. When threads are this old it's generally okay to start a new one asking your question (like you posted) and providing the link to the thread you are referencing (like this one) for people to review and then answer the question. Plus, with the age of this thread, it might be best to e-mail the OP (if his e-mail still works) Plus, you have an S13, and the OP clearly states that this diagram is for the S14, so, I'd e-mail. He last posted in February of this year.

(i realize this is an old thread but since people are reading this now..)

as a word of caution i understand that this will make the dual altima e-fans function the same way as the stock AC fan. IIRC, the AC fan turns on with the AC or when the temperatures pass 215F (as backup to the mechanical fan). just wiring them up like this may make the engine run on the edge of very hot, if it waits until 215F before turning the fans on.

I am not using a clutch fan, so this is my full time work horse.

I want to wire a thermostate to it, set it to 175 (or optimal temp ) and send these guys to work.

I thought the OP would still be around but the time for a new thread is pending.
