You need to split some wires, but listen to what I'm saying:

Route F3(17) to the ECU backup power pin and ECU relay signal side (power to the relay's coil).

Route F3(1) to everything else.

It's not plug-n-play fellas, so try to understand the reason behind this so that you'll know exactly what you need to do without just blindly following the diagram.

I do understand the reason, I'm just ignorant to this wiring crap. Is the "ECU backup power" pin #58? And is the "ECU relay signal side " the "H" wire? Please be patient with me this is my first time at this kind of thing.

btw- on the diagram, as far as I know (altho hard to remember right now), I think you have the very first connection labeled wrong, I believe you say it is F(40), but it is 39 ;)

I still think it's F3(40), but I will change it if someone else can confirm it. You had an automatic transmission, so maybe yours is different. The info from freshalloy also says F3(40).

RBpower, I do not know what pin the backup power comes from. There are plenty of RB20 ECU pinouts online that have that information, tho.

As for the "h" wire, it goes to several places, one of which is the ECU for backup power. You will have to split that wire off of the rest to do it the way I did.

But if it doesn't make sense, just go ahead and wire everything to F3(1) for now. Your ECU won't keep it's memory, but everything should work out ok until you sort the rest out.

I wired E and F from the RB harness to F3(1) and H to F3(17).

Now, you said you have to "split tha twire off of the rest"?

Rest of what? I just took it right out of the plug "O", so does this mean power may go to some places I don't want it to?

Ok, I found a mistake. On the "O" plug, the "h" wire does NOT go to the IGN relay! It goes to the ECCS relay, the injectors, and the ECU backup power pin 58. I corrected this mistake.

The corrected wiring guide is here.

Since there only seems to be confusion about what to do with the h wire, I will only discuss that wire, calling it O(h).

On the RB20 harness, the plug O(h) wire splits into several wires that go to the injectors, the ECCS relay, and to the ECU pin 58. All you have to do is find the wire going to pin 58, cut it, and connect it to F3(17). Then you can just connect everything else on O(h) to F3(1).

Oh don't tell me I have to pull the harness all back out!

OK, just to be sure....I took the w/B wire from the O plug and I hooked it to F3(17), and that is all I did with it..I didn't separate any wires or anything..so am I ok?...I'm pretty sure I am.

That should be correct, although I don't remember what color that wire was.

Wulfgang I would like to personally say thank you for the time you put into that writeup. I am about to start my swap and mods, and it will probably end up saving me (and others) HOURS upon HOURS....

K guys I am getting there! In the middle of swapping over x-members and getting the wiring done on my RB20 S14. I have a good grasp on basically everything I will need to do.. HOWEVER, from what I understand frmo researching the f3 pinout is damn near impossible to find. Wulfgang you mentioned that you had that pinout in a very old thread, you don't by chance still have it... do you?

Otherwise, I guess I am a little confused as to how everyone had a standard for wiring something to each of the pins such as F3(17) or f3(40). I know there is a color associated, but there are so many pins there I want to have both a position and color to make sure I have the proper wire..

Thanks guys... and I'll have some pics of everything soon :)

Heh.... the link to the F3 pinout is in this very same thread! It was on Freshalloy. Look for one of my posts on the first page...

As for a pic of the F3 pin numbers, I don't have that. I will try to take a picture of that FSM page tonight and post it.

Looking at the F3 plug, pull off the black cover on it, the side the wires all come out of the black cover (I'll call it the left when looking down on it), the bottom, left pin on that is #1, then you count to the right till you get to the line that separates the left and right, then you start over on the left, but top row and count again, then when you get to the end of that, you goto the 2nd section (the right) on the bottom left pin and count the same way.

That sounds REALLY confusing, but just reference Wulfgang's numbers and colors with what you see and after a while you'll get it.

Sounds good guys, thanks a BUNCH for all the help...

I hope to get all the wiring done tonight, and I guess if worse comes to worse I can always run continuity on the wires to ensure I am on the right wire.

Murray <- Hoping to have a running rb20 s14 by sunday :)
