'89, JDM, Q45A, 97K'sWe keep blowing fuses on tail and dash lights. The Auto electrician tells me it draws 25 amps on this fuse with park lights turned on and this should only be a 10 amp fuse. Have disconnected rear harness under back seat and short still exists. Have disconnected dash light dimmer and the short is still there. Disconnmected front park lights, same results. Disconnected radio & cig. lighter with no results. He put in a 30 amp fuse and the dash lights came on but very dull, however the dimmer still did not work. He has been at this problem all day now and can't seem to sort it out so I hope you guys can help.

Are bulbs OEM or cheap Chinese replacements? Use new OEM bulbs thoughout, or at worst, Sylvania LL. What is the condition of the sockets andconnections to them?

Sounds like a stuck relay, find the one involving that circuit and tap on it.

Are they new OEM, or the original or otherwise aged?

As far as we can tell all bulbs are original.......they all look the same. Is there some way we can tell for sure that they are OEM original? My auto electrician is coming over tomorrow to do some more checking so I will take some bulbs out and post the photos for you to ID.

I can't imagine that bulbs could cause that much of a problem! If you're pulling entire harnesses, then you should be able to eliminate them. If not you can remove bulbs one at a time.

The circuit drives a lot of different lighting items... so I would disconnect everything one at a time. Certainly not a common issue.

I wouldn't rule out the actual headlight switch from having a short in it. Does the harness for it run near any moving parts, ie., steering column?

Sometimes wiring harness short under rear seat------executive weighed too much.

Thx AllSome dash lights and all tail lights are now working don't know why they just started working. However, now the trunk switch on the arm rest and driver (RH) side window switches stoped working and all other windows only operate from their door switches. The consul switches won't operate any of them. The auto electrician(he's just pullin' his hair out now) checked window motor and trunk solonoid both are working OK. He also recons that the harness under the rear seat is fine.

Any clues on where to start looking?

I would run through the electrical tests modes 1 thru 4 in the FSM.

Hi Aussie:

I think you may have a ground problem.

My reason for this suggestion is that your tech when checking the circuits maybe using the ground on the body or some other exposed surface. Ask him to check the circuits suing the ground within the circuit to pinpoint where poor ground connection exists (shake the wires while checking the circuit).

I say this because he sounds like a very well-informed tech and when these people pull there, hair out over a problem it is usually something simple.

It may be worth a try.

Regards,

I've only got the FSM for a "94" USA Q, do you think this is the same as an '89 Q45a JDM ?

Not exactly. But close enough for most purposes not related to the heads, ATF heat exchanger and some parts of the wiring harness.
