I was wondering if anyone else has gone down the same road I'm about to try with my Versa stereo:The Versa S (not SL) stero has no auxiliary jack and therefore there is no immediate way to play music from ipods, mp3 players, etc. While there are a few options on how to work around this, I'm thinking about hooking in a wired FM modulator. This allows you to pick up your portable device output over the FM radio. This is not to be confused with a wireLESS FM modulator which involves much greater harmonic sacrifices.I've read from some sources that installing a wired FM modulator involves almost as much work as installing a new stereo. Another source said that they installed in 15 minutes. I thought before I went ahead and potentially made a mess, I'd better ask if anyone else has successfully done this. The FM Modulator I'm looking at is:

and the install schematic is:

though any general advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That's a typical retail price for it. I've done tons of these. The install just depends on how hard it is to get your radio out. I've done some where you don't even have to take out your radio. It will never be as difficult as installing a new radio. All you do is unplug the antenna from your radio and plug it into the FM modulator then plug the ant out from yoru FM mod. to the radio. Wire up a ground wire and wire the power wire to accessory power through an on/off switch of your choice. When you want to use the modulator you just flip the switch.

They work fine in my book. Many purists will complain about them but it's a simple and cheap way to go and that may be one of your only options.

Thanks qsiguy.

I'll try it.How do you identify accessory power? Will it be marked as such?To my knowledge, wiring to ground involves bringing the ground wire into contact with any metal part of the car. However, would there be a special connector under the panel near the radio for this kind of thing?I'm not at all electrically inclined as you can tell.
