Wire Wheel Acid on Calipers?

Hey people,I was looking at some articles on how to paint calipers, and found an article that used wire wheel acid to clean the calipers free of any grime, dirt and all that. I have tried degreaser and hours worth of scrubbing with wire brush, but that only gave me less than mediocre results. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with this method of cleaning.

A wire wheel on a bench grinder is phenomenal for removing crap from aluminum or steel.

Then just use some mineral spirits or brake clean to get any oils off.

brake cleaner didnt work. It needs more. The calipers are over a decade old....but that is irrelevant to what I wanted to know. I was just wondering if anyone had actually used them before.
