Wire in oil ring expander

I got some OEM rings for my KA rebuild, and found that the brass colored expander rings have a small piece of wire in them. Is this part of the packaging, or should it stay on when I put it on the piston?

I'd expect it to stay on, but check the parts list that came with the kit to be sure.

Or there's plan B. If it's barely hanging on by one tiny part of the expander, just toss it, might just be scrap.

yeah keep the wire, there should be a slaall hole in the other side of that, to aid in making sure its true
