Hi, Anyone know the wire colors for the starter and ignition wires?

Also, is there a constant 12v (always on) that I could tap into for my car alarm.

What 12v wire do you guys use/could use for powering other accessories?

Thanks

The radio should have a switched power wire or you can use the power wire from the lighter for low draw accesories. Make sure the total draw will not start popping fuses.

The surest contant 12v is the batt as far as the alarm goes.

Someone correct me if I am way off on this one. I've hooked to the radio and lighter on my car, but if it's dangerous I'd like to know about it too. So far no problems and everthing works fine.

If you need to hook to the starter for your alarm's starter kill, I think that is usually done at the ignition lock cylinder/ key switch.

Thanks for the reply.

Yea, I know it's done at the cylinder switch, but there are quite a few wires there and if someone was able to tell me what color they were, it would make things a lot easier.

And right now I'm using the cigarette lighter also. I am tapping into them for my controllers (fog lights, and pivot controller). I only have one fuse for pivot controller and no fuse for the fog lights.

I think when using the power off another accessory, you're suppose to install a fuse so that it doesn't destroy the whole circuit line, but I'm not sure how to install them or what kind to use.

I would like to connect my pivot controller to something that has 24/7 connection because sometimes I turn my headlights off after I turn off the engine, and it doesn't go down because the controller has no power.

Go for the constant power on the radio or run a new wire to the batt.

To install a fuse, buy a inline fuse holder with correct/ recommended amp fuse for the device (glass tube or blade type, your perference) and wire it inline to the power wire of that accessory.

Cool, I'll check that out.

Last time I removed the radio, there were like a ga-gillion wires. You don't happen to know which one will work do you?

I can find out tho, I just got a multimeter - good time to learn how to start using it :).

I don't know the recommended amp for my two controllers though :(, part of my problem. The only thing I was told in the instructions was to tap into a 12v source. So 5amp? 10amp? I'm sure it can't be too high because all it does is act as a switch with status lights (the fog light controller).

I'll also be running a set of lights throughout my interior.

Thanks for the help dood.

I don't have a FSM for the 89-90, but the 91-94 is red/ black. It may be unchanged. I can't seem to find the right FSM for our SOHC's on the net, but they seems to be easy to find for every DOHC or even swapped engines.

They don't always tell you specifically what amp fuse to use, but if you still have the tech/ install papers, it will tell you the draw it is supposed to use, then just install the amp fuse that is immediately above that. example: Unit draws 8 amps, then install 10 amp fuse.

Your welcome. Glad to help.
