Your subject seems to suggest that the a/c is coming on but the engine isn't switching to fast idle. Is that the case or is the a/c not coming on at all?

What is it you have wired to a switch? The a/c compressor clutch? I hope not.

The compressor clutch, aux fan, and fast idle solenoid are all operated by the same relay. The ecu controls this relay based on inputs including pressure and temperature for safety. Bypassing this is a foolish move, even temporarily.

Wire it up as best you know how, then tell me what works and what doesn't and we'll go from there.

To have the compressor on a switch, you mean? Well, compare it to opening up the hood and wedging a piece of cardboard in the throttle to "fix" your cruise control.

You're removing all control of the compressor. The ecu can no longer turn it on and off to keep the evaporator core at the right temperature. The dual pressure switch can no longer shut down the system if the pressure gets too low (risking compressor damage) or too high (risking damage of damn near anything - possibly loss of life.) The compressor isn't supposed to be on all the time. That is NOT how things work.
