we wanted to buy a 91 nissan 240sx hatch and we went to check it out. and we started it and popped the hood, and noticed that the engine was making a strange clicking scraping noise and it was coming from the front of the engine.. does anyone know what the sound might have been or what might have been causing it,, because if it isn't a big problem then i might as well go back and buy it,, but if its a big problem,, then i guess we'll have to look for another 240 to start a project on.

The aftermarket timing chain kit cost about $200, could be less. If you have your dealer to do it, probably they suggest you to replace all the belts, water pump, front seal... It probably adds up to about a grand

If you want to replace all of the timing chain components with new chains, guides and tensioners, it'll cost a little more than $500 new from the dealership... If you want, I can check the receipts and give you a more exact number.

If you get the parts from midway auto(NICO sponsor) You could probably save over a hundred dollars. Unfortunately I was on a time constraint, so I didn't.

But before you jump in on this project... you might want to remove your upper timing chain guides first. Those are the parts that go bad and make noises... Nissan later realized that they're useless, so they no longer replace them.. just leave them off. It might save you several hundred dollars if that's the only problem.
