The other day when I was driving in the rain to work, the driver-side wiper started to malfunction. The wiperblade would raise about 1/4 of its travel and stop which meant the passenger-side wiper would continue and hit the partially raised driver-side blade. This broke the blade and I have to buy a new one.

I know the problem is not the motor because one works.I tried to reset them back to the resting position to no avail. If I move the driver-side wiper there is no resistance whatsoever but the passenger side resists moving.

It seems the wiper is not being powered or is off track ?

Its really a pain driving the last 10 miles in the rain with no wiper.

Any thoughts/advice would be welcome.

I dunno about the Q, but most cars have a bolt on the base of the wiper arm, and if it gets loose it will not move, the motor will just spin and the wiper wont catch the grooves...I would suggest starting there and making sure it is tight, if it has one that is.

lift the hood first and find the nut on the opposite end of the rubber wiper .

The wiper shaft coming through the cowl or top of firewall is a splined, conical shaft with threads on the end narrow at the top wider at the bottom. The shaft is more stout than the wiper blade arm that fits over it. Thus if you drove 10 miles with the shaft turning inside the female part of the blade housing (may not be correct term) there is a good chance you have worn down the splines of the blade housing or wiper arm. Take off the blade arm via the one nut. If there are still splines left in the arm you are in luck. Take a wire brush to the splines on the wiper shaft and make sure it is clean and all of the worn out wiper arm debris is clean from the whole spline. You can either reset the old blade arm after cleaning it out and crank the nut down tight and try it or replace the wiper arm. I have had some success with old blades arms resetting on the splines of the shaft if I cranked the nut down tight. Don't forget you do not want to crack the arm.
