So my wiper pump died. I figured I would get a replacement for short money but that didn't work out great. the replacement options were cheap, but they all have the tiny hoses and a bunch of messing around with adapters would be needed.

Since it was completely dead, I figured i would open it up and try to fix it. I am sure to some of you this is silly and easy but here is what i did to fix it. A guy at work who is an engineer gave me a 3 minute tour of it and then said he thought it wasn't making contact right and it just needed a bit of cleaning.

Anyways, maybe someone out there will use this. Took 15 minutes.

Take the top of the pump off, remove the impeller. There is a tiny washer below the impeller.

Bend back the tabs, and pull the black cover out. You'll see the plug and the contacts, and then the cooper thing on the axle that the contacts rub on to make it spin.

The plug and contacts slide out and the axle will pull out. I tested the plugs / contacts with a multimeter and it was pretty dodgy getting current through it. I don't understand the axle side, but the multimeter didn't help at all on that end.

I cleaned the copper thing on the axle, the contacts and the plugs with some electronic cleaner and sand paper. I generally cleaned up the rest brievfly. I am not sure if it matters but the contacts had worn round. I rubbed them down to get them clean and they were back to more or less flat. I was also told to run a pick between the plates on the axle thing. Because if the power bridges the plates there is chance it won't work right.

Then I put it back together, and it works fine.
