Wiper blades stuck on the mirror

Hi,

I have an old sentra in great shape so far. However, recently during a light rain, my wipers just got stuck midway. I can hear the motor sound doing "click click click" as if trying to move the blades from one end to the other but it is not helping. Any suggestions on what could have gone wrong and how to go about fixing this? The wipers can be easily moved manually over the windshield and I have placed them in their original OFF position for now.

It sounds like the wiper arms have slipped on the splines that they are bolted to. I'd check to see if those bolts are tight. If not, tighten them. If it still does it, then it's probably stripped out and you'll need new wiper arms. Did both wiper arms start doing it at the same time?

Thanks for getting back. I will check the splines. That's a good point. Both the wiper arms got stuck at the same time and if you move them up/down manually, both move together. Does that indicate something with the linkage ?

Well usually if they slip on a spline it happens to one before the other. The odds of both of them doing it at the same time are kinda slim. It can happen though!
