Hey guys I need some help here. It is now the beginning of november in pittsburgh and I was going to ask for some opinions on winter tires. I called infiniti dealership today and had to leave a message for the parts guy to call me back. when he called me back he was noticeably too busy to answer most of my questions, so i was rushed in talking to him. he recommended michelin alpine tires or bridgestone blizzak's. For the guys that dont have the sport models, there are 18" wheels vs. the standard 17" on the X models. The front tires are 225/50R18 and the rear tires 245/45R18 from the factory. I was under the impression that I could buy any 18" tire and have it fit my car, but the guy at the dealership told me I had to get specific numbers, exactly as the factory had them. My tires are currently the factory bridgestone potenzas that come on the sport model, and obviously i'm not going to want to use those numbers for winter. Am i completely off base here? Am i able to just go on tirerack.com and buy 18" blizzak's? Any thoughts or opinions would be very appreciated.

The search button is your pal for answering this question. But that being the case, Discount Tire has wheels MB7X (17") that fit the g35S. Those wheels and a set of WS50 Blizzacks (225X55XR17) will fit perfectly.THe wheels are $84 each and the tires are $99 each.

but when i searched (even on that site directly) when i choose the car g35 with sport package, it comes up with a thing that says "the tires and wheels on this car are staggered, meaning the rear wheels are larger than the front" or something along those lines...and then when i click on matching packages it comes up saying "no matches found"....is there anyone out there with an 07 g35-s sedan that had to buy winter tires? i'm just confused about the fact that there is a staggered size arrangement between front and rear. i'm not even all that concerned with getting wheels and tires in a package. the main thing that i want to do is get winter tires that will fit my car without screwing myself for buying a size that isn't going to fit my car

when i called discount, the lowest they could go for me was 100 for each rim and 150 for michelin x-alpines. did you do something special to get these prices? i hear there is gonna be a 100-200 dollar off coupon special for discount in the coming week. i may pull the trigger on a set of snows and rims if thats the case.

Go to Discount Tire internet site. You will find the MB7X 17" wheels for $81each. Then go to the store and they will give you the same price.

TireRack had the Blizzack WS50 (225X55X17) for $99 each.

Don't worry about the offset, the 17" MB7X wheels fit. Discount Tire now has them for $81 Each.

One of the recommendations at tirerack.com is to consider going with a 16inch rim and tire to match (205-65-16) instead of the 17inch and tire to match (215-55-17). (this is on an 04 G35X). The narrower profile tire will perform better in the snow.

I was wondering if anyone has used the 16 inch over the 17 inch for snow tires on their G. Were there problems with clearing of the brake calipers??

Right now I'm thinking of buying another set of 17 rims and a set of either blizzaks or Dunlop Winter Sport M3's.

Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.Paul

thats basically what i'm wondering also. i would be much happier going with 16" wheels with blizzack's, but I have no clue if they will fit on the 07 g35's...just by looking at my wheels it looks like they are some pretty big calipers.....for now i'd go with 17 until someone on this forum says that they used 16" wheels on the same model/year and it worked

Bob,

I also have the '07 Sport Sedan and I faced the same questions. The main issue you need to address in selecting a Winter Tire is what type of conditions will you be facing most frequently. Lots of snow, mostly ice or general slush. This will lead you what type of tire to consider.

Firstly, I went down to the 17" tires/wheels since a smaller wheel/tire moves through the snow easier. Secondly, while the Blizzak is an excellent Winter Tire (I have a pair on my wife's Sienna), they are noisy and do not handle too well.

I decided to go with an ice-focused tire since I live in Toronto and contrary to popular belief our snow accumulation is relatively minimal. I felt that ice is my main handling concern. I ended up choosing the Yokohama IceGuard 20 (225/55R17). I also purchased SSW S038 mesh rims since I hate the black steel rims that most people install. Best of luck with your choice.
