Sorry if there is already a thread on this, please refer me.

Unfortunently winter is coming quickly and I want to get my tires soon.

For anyone who had their coupe last winter, what tires did you use? and what do you suggest?

Thanks.

Michelin PA3 Pilot Alpin Hands down destroys the competition
mcheddadi wrote:Here is a MORE RECENT list, its the 2007 german ADAC performance winter tire test.(205/55 16). This is a very extensive and professional test. None can be compared to this test in my view:

First off, the LOWER the number the better.

Some notes:

As most tests have already showed, the Dunlop Wintersport D3 is an extremely good performance winter tire (second place). The news this year is that the Michelin PA3 - a new tire replacing the old Pilot PA2 but in the H rating only in North america - is the new king, mainly because of its extraordinary wear resistance. BUT still, as Consumer report have said and many other tests, the Continental TS 810 is a VERY good choice also; in fact it IS the best in snow and wet.

This test, and many others in Europe I have read about, show once again that the Pirelli Sottozero a comlete flawed design. On Tirerack one of the few owner reported said it was no better than an all season tire... contrary to the the Dunlop and Continental whose owners on this site were mostly amazed.

So, time and time again the story is the same. The big brand names do better. And the Blizzak, as many have said, is VERY good on snow BUT very noisy and overall not very good.

btw, the The H-speed rated Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 is for the 16 inch 2.5S Altimaand the V-speed-rated Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 is for the 17inch 3.5SE Altima, also the Pilot performs better than the Alpin.

H 130 mph - 210 km/hV 149 mph - 240 km/h

PA3 FTW!

hahaha, sorry but I like sporting my toyo t1r's year round. But for our northern brothers. I have felt your pain. I used to spend alot of time in canada playing hockey.

As far as the winter tires, i agree with mendi, a buddy of mine has those on his civic and he loved them in the snow.

I have heard michelin is the way to go, but the only ones I have been able to find is the X-Ice2. What do you guys know about these compared to the Alpin PA's.

I dont really care about the price because I get them for dealer cost, because I work at a dealership.

I've used two different generations of Blizzaks and found them to be pretty good. They're also a little easier on the wallet compared to the Michellin. So if you have the money get the best! If you don't mind a little compromise then consider the Blizzaks

Blah.. Winter.

Time to see if the Eibach Pro-kit will have made my car undrivable.. or at least very uncomfortable.'I'm going to go with whatever I can find cheapest because I don't need "performance" winter tires as the only thing I ever do in the winter with my car is drift around.

But I'll look into the deals around my area and see if I can find a good buy.

Lucky for you Toronto winters are normally fairly mild, except for the random blizzard. We put up with constant snow and it never melts until March.

I need to know what the best tire is purely for grip. So I dont spin my tires at every red light and dont roll back on hill starts (6MT).

*sigh*

Yes, it is. Last winter was brutal, my front bumper (now repainted) took a beating.

Currently, using Hankook's iPike's W409 and pleased with them, it went through 2x 35+ cm of Winter Storms.

35cm of snow...we call that a good week. Just kidding. Thanks for the advice, hopefully winter comes late this year.

yes i had my car since june of 07, so i had it for winter.

I bought my tires from tirerack, and they went through our snowy streets like a tank. Not the best on ice, but definatly not the worst. Plus having heated seats makes sitting in our crappy winter rush hours slightly more comforting.

My email address should be in my lil profile thing, you should add me to msn or email me and i can give you the info of the final Nissan meet for the season

Hey I am looking into winter tires as well. I was planning on getting Yokohama IceGuard IG20, like I use to have on my old car. But TireTrends.com has a package for $780 that has ContiVikingContact3 and 16 inch steel wheels.

I started this thread a while ago when I started shopping.

I decided to go with Coopertire Weathermasters, simply because I can get the tires and rims at dealer cost and these were a great deal. I just ordered them and will have them installed on Oct.30.

For some reason the rims were fairly expensive and some what hard to find. I got the last four rims the place had available.

I am selling my winter tires, the details are in the classified/for sale forum, I don't think I can post it here w/o it being deleted.

e-mail me if interested [email protected].

Not sure of brand, but they are 16" black steel rims. I guess they were hard to find because of the bolt pattern and width.

I get some parts really cheap because I work at a dealership and my girlfriends dad owns a mechanic shop. They both said the rims were far more expensive than most other cars and harder to locate.

The only problem with that is the ice can form around the spokes, throwing your wheel balance off == wheel vibration and noise at high speeds.

True enough, Steel rims are the best for winter. Also I think the car will look kinda nice all black with the black steels.

I do want some summer rims but probably not in the budget for next summer yet, also nogears you know how ****ty our roads are. Not the best city to have rims especially because we can only have them on half the year.

True. I wish I sold them because I had this problem last winter. I have to admit I love that I'm using my 5Zigen GN+ Pro (with Hankook iPike W409) in the Winter.

Just picked up a set of Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice tires and steelies for $500. I caught a break, someone at work knew someone who had lost their licence due to medical reasons and had to give back her altima, she has just bought winter tires last year and drove to Toronto and back. So winter tires and rims with 800km (500mi) for $500 CAD ($394 USD - stupid world markets) seemed like a pretty sweet deal.
