Winter tire sizes

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hey guys,

I have tried to my research online and in the forum, but haven't got a clear solution.
The more i read, more confused i became!

My ride has 225/55/18 stock tire and now i am in the market to get a set for winter.
I have decided to go down to 17" tire for the winter set.
So my question is: what are the various combinations of 17" tires can be used with my ride without creating any negative driving effects.

Cheers

I believe the 2008-2010 EX35s came with a tire size of 225/60R17 for the standard 17" wheels. The 225/55R18 were on Infiniti's 18" wheel upgrade.

I'd recommend looking at the 225/60R17 tire models first if you're going with a 17" wheel, as it is pretty much as close as you can get to your 18" tire size. You may be able to try different widths and aspect ratios, but I think the OEM 17" tire size pretty much fits the bill for you.

Best site I've found for this kind of information is willtheyfit.com

Based upon your stock tire 225/55/18

the 225/60/17 suggested is only a .41% difference and is a good suggestion

depending on the rim size your going with another suggestion would be a 245/55/17 which is .48% diff

225/60/17 for winter is the way to go. You don't want any wider than 225. Remember it is for winter, tires need to be less wide so it can cut through the snow.... Wide = snowboard ...

In regards to winter tires, get the ones that has real winter rubber compound all throughout the entire tire thread. Some snow tires only had winter rubber compound on the first few mm's thread depth and once the tire gets more mileage, the all season rubber compound shows up halfway of the tires life.

I believe Nokian has full winter rubber compound all through the life of the tire.
I believe some winter tires manuf. are also making this kind of winter tires nowadays. Just do some research... Also, check for better rolling resistance for fuel mileage and less wear.

The difference between a 225 and 245 on the same width rim is going to be negligible. Get whichever is cheaper.

For example the QX now bumped up the width of their 19 inch rim by a half inch to 8.5" because the difference in width between the 18's 225's and 19's 245's on the EX37 was only .3 inches on the same 8 inch rim width. hardly a snowboard... :chuckle:

17" Alternate: 215/65-17; i hope this would be less expensive than 225/60-17!
