All right, I know most of you have praised the Blizzaks, and they lok pretty good at a pretty godo price (75 each from tirerack.com) but I also see a few others there that have a similar rating (tirerack rating) and are cheaper or more expensive. If anyone has owned the following WINTER tires, and has somethign to say about them, then go ahead: 1) Bridgestone - Blizzak WS-50 2) Firestone - WinterFire (w/or w/out studs)3) Michelin - Pilot Alpin4) Michelin - Arctic-Alpin5) Pirelli - Winter 210 SnowSport 6) Anyother WINTER tire nto mentioned here

Supposedly the Michelin ArcticAplin provide exceptional ice handling capabilities, but do not have silica compound, while the PilotAlpin do (is it important for winter tires to have silica compund?). I am leaning toward the Blizzaks right now, because I have heard good things about them, they are not ridiculously expensive, and seem to be well made to handle both snow and ice.

Anyway, your input guys...

Also, before you get to whoop my newbie ***, Lost, I have read ur opinion about snow tires, and your recommendation for the...Egga...Gigga...those weird sounding Norwegian ones. I take them into account, but they are out of my price range, and from what I've heard their unstudded performance is not on par with the Blizzaks.

Now you may destroy me...

Well K-Car, remember once you gave a few links that reviewed the Nordfrost IIs? One of them had a guy talking about how he didn't go with the Blizzaks because they were not capable of being studded, unlike the Nordfrosts, whose studded performance he praised, but he said that if they didn't have studs they were probably not as good as the Blizzaks (at least while the outer "spongy-ice-defying" layer on the Blizzaks wasn't worn down).

I wouldn't know for sure myself never even had a car before this summer, but once again the Nordfrosts are a little expensive, and looking for them on google gave me a bunch of Russian links (which is ok, cuz I can read them, but not ok since they would all be located in Russia, hence negating their usefulness to me), so I'm not even sure they come in the 195/60/16 size. Thanks for your tips though, when I have more money, I'll look into the unpronouceables... :)
